Daily grind

Today, over half of my coworkers have called out for various reasons and my manager is on her third week of vacation. My coworkers keep calling out. I'm the only closer. I just want a day off. FML

better call out if you want a day off too

Damn, sorry OP, i know how that feels. This one week, EVERYONE called out except my immediate boss for the first 2 days. I had to pull a 10 hour shift those two days to cover the last 2 hours if operation. Luckily, on ths third day, which was my birthday, someone came in for the later shift, so i got out 2 hours earlier. Took the rest of the week off with PTO, which I already had planned anyway.

If you are the only person "closing," then you are indispensable to the company and can't take time off. The good news is you have leverage to demand a raise and a promotion.

I feel this! I am a shift manager and every time the general manager is off or on vacation the call ins are endless and trying to find people to cover shifts is like slim to none! Nobody wants to help out. But they’re usually the first ones to ask for “more hours”. And then the people that do come in for their shifts don’t wanna freakin do anything but play on their phones and goof off because “while the cats away the mice will play”. ITS ANNOYING!

Call out then! Have you notified the manager?

So call out yourself because of exhaustion

I'm not sure it's legal to force mandatory overtime, at least not everywhere. You may want to check your company/store policies.
