Today, I threw an elaborate surprise birthday party for my boyfriend of four years. He thought we were going to a quiet dinner but when we arrived, thirty of his friends jumped out and surprised him. Instead of kissing me to thank me, he broke up with me because of how easily I had lied to him. FML

thats pretty manipulative of them. you should still break up with him the way you intended and let his family know that what they did was unfair and hurtful to you

I'm sure this has been said plenty, but if you're set on breaking up with him, then you need to do it sooner rather than later. It may suck, but it will be harder to do the longer you stay with him. And who knows? Maybe he feels similarly, but hasn't been able to say it? Maybe the surprise party was all the family and not him.
