Worth it
Today, I drove for hours to attend a martial arts tournament, and then I waited ages for it to finally start. I lost in less than a minute. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I drove three hours to go to an awards ceremony. When I got there, I had to wait an hour for the hall to open, then sat listening to speeches for two hours, got my "award", and drove three hours home. The award was a small pin that I already had. FML
Today, I missed my University entrance exam because of heavy traffic. I was stuck at one intersection for over an hour. The real kicker? It took me less than 10 minutes to drive home. FML
Today, I drove two and a half hours to a job interview. The interviewer never showed up or called. I sat in the hotel lobby waiting for an hour and a half. Even the hotel staff said they felt sorry for me. FML
Today, I waited patiently in the airport as my flight was repeatedly delayed. After 5 long hours I approached one of the attendees to discover that the plane had left 5 minutes ago. FML
Today, I got to sports practice 30 seconds late and got kicked out for "poor time management". FML
Today, I took part in a charity run for a good cause. I'd trained for months and showed up, only to trip and fall flat on my face at the starting line. I spent the rest of the race with scraped knees and a bruised ego. FML
Today, I dropped my daughter off at a concert where she was performing and went to look for parking. I got caught in freak traffic and it took me an hour to get back there. I missed her act. FML
Today, I entered my first professional fight as a mixed martial artist. It's been my dream to become a UFC champion one day. All I do is train and watch UFC fights all day. I was out cold in a matter of seconds. FML
Today, I competed in a Tae Kwon Do competition. I came third with my team in the sparring event. My mum said as a joke, "Were there only 3 teams?" There were. FML
Today, after months of looking forward to my new fencing lessons and speculating endlessly about the people who might be in my class, I went to my first lesson. I was the only one who showed up. FML

That sucks! I had something similar happen (I waited all day for my division although I only drove for 45 minutes) when I went to a grappling tournament expecting it to be double elimination like all my judo competitions and I fought a guy who couldn't beat me with technique so he finally just hugged my head and I only had a few seconds left in the match so I tapped out, thinking I would have another match anyway. Turns out it was a single elimination tournament and I waited all that time to lose to a hug. Oh well, though--you live and learn.

Practice more and train harder.

Put your jacket on. Take your jacket off. Drop your jacket on the ground. Pick it up. Hang it up. Take your jacket down. Put your jacket on. and you too can be the next karate kid.

Most matches have a set time, though, and only end early in the case of a knockout / surrender / TKO (technical knockout). That's how World Taekwondo Federation standard rules work.

Maybe it wasn't TKD. There's more than one martial art genius

Same thing happened to me. Trained harder than ever after, and won the entire tournament the next time around. Oss

That's awesome. Josh Waitzkin (the chess wizard who also happens to be a martial artist) always said he actually prayed that there would be someone there that was better than him and would beat him whenever he went to a chess tournament because that was when he improved the most. He learned more from the losses than the victories. The road to mastery is not about perfection but of growth. As long as you are better now than you were before, you're headed in the right direction.
