Today, I competed in a Tae Kwon Do competition. I came third with my team in the sparring event. My mum said as a joke, "Were there only 3 teams?" There were. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Low blow
Today, we sparred for Tae Kwon Do. I forgot my cup, but I didn't think anyone sucked enough to hit me below the belt. Five seconds into a match, some girl knees me in the Hacky Sacks. After writhing in pain for 30 seconds, I got back up to spar. I didn't think she sucked enough to do it again. She did. FML
Worth it
Today, I drove for hours to attend a martial arts tournament, and then I waited ages for it to finally start. I lost in less than a minute. FML
Pride
Today, I competed in a national championship for the sport that I play, and none of my family came to watch and support me. My wife, kids, parents, brothers and sisters - none of them. It was the only opportunity to see me compete, as I'm getting too old and have to stop now. Thanks for nothing, family. FML
Today, my mom was watching me during my Taekwondo lessons. She was yelling at me to focus on my own work and to quit hanging out with the little kids. I'm the instructor. FML
Today, my whole family piled into our station wagon just to watch my mom take part in an arm wrestling contest. FML
Wax on, wax off
Today, after 10 years of intense training, I earned a black belt in karate. When I told my mom, she asked how long it took me, then laughed and sarcastically remarked, "Wow. SO impressive," whilst slow-clapping. FML
They call him Mighty Force
Today, I got kneed in the stomach by a sixth grader. I couldn't breathe. I have a black belt in Taekwondo. FML
Today, two days before a big weight lifting competition with a $3,000 grand prize, I broke my arm. FML
The sweet sighs of disappointment
Today, I was up against two others in a 120m race on my school's sports day. Unexpectedly, I heard my name being chanted from most of the classes watching and well, this made me want to win so much that I leaned forward too much whilst running and ended up tripping and rolling on the track. I heard loud sighs after. FML
Today, I was wrestling in a tournament. I was in the finals about to win when the kid threw up on me. They thought I'd hit him in the stomach hard enough to make him throw up, so they disqualified me. FML

At least you participated. You gained experience. You'll do better, good luck!

Hey. You competed. That's worthy of praise in and out of itself.

Unpopular opinion, but becoming complacent with a "participation medal" is exactly what OP shouldn't do. This should be the kick in the ass needed for OP to start getting better.

@#17 Of course they should work towards getting better, I was just saying how this shouldn't be discouraging.

@17 I wrestled in high school. My first time wrestling varsity, my coach sent me to a tournament. He knew I was going to get my ass handed to me but he sent me because of the exposure and experience. And although I completely sucked, I learned what works, what doesn't, corrected some minor details that had a huge impact. You can only become better by going against those better than you. I think that's what #2 was getting at.

At least you tried ...

It would've been better if your mother "sparred" you the joke (just had to say it). All in all, being able to participate and compete is amazing - you'll get even better and have more opportunities to get first place!

That sucks op, parents never realize how much a comment from them can hurt our self-esteem.

To try and fail is better than to not have tried at all.

It's better than staying at home and doing nothing. You're exercising and keeping fit. Speaking of which, you should teach us how. It seems fun lol
