Today, I asked my girlfriend's dad for permission to take her hand in marriage. He said no, because he doesn't want her marrying a "sexist idiot who treats her like property", which he thinks asking permission amounts to, then told me to grow up. FML
Today, I asked for permission to marry the girl I love. Her father not only said no, he said "HELL no!" FML

Today, I happily told my parents that my boyfriend proposed to me last night. My dad's response? "Marry that goofy bastard and you're out of the will." FML
Today, my boyfriend went to ask my dad for my hand in marriage. All I could make out from the door was mumbling, until profanities started flying. My boyfriend shouted "well she's a SINGLE bitch now!" and stormed out of the house. My dad still refuses to tell me what happened in there. FML

Although the situation from out POV looks funny, OP did the right thing, father didn't. OP was showing respect despite the fact that it really wasn't necessary and dad has no say over his daughter anymore. If OP loves his girlfriend he will still marry her, dad will fail and OP shall win, but after dads stupid movie he won't have very good relationship with his daughter and her husband ( if she say Yes), which kinda sucks but also isn't so important, just as his permission.
