Today, while my mother-in-law visited, I asked if she wouldn't mind watching my son for 10 minutes as I had run out of baby shampoo. I came back home to see she had shaved his head completely bald. That was his very first haircut. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my 4-year-old son cut half of my hair when I was asleep because he thought I would look better that way. FML
Today, I went to pick up my daughter from my dad's house. He'd shaved her head bald. "For a laugh." FML
Fashion influencer
Today, after discussing having our son's hair styled nicely for school, my ex returned him with his head shaved. I didn't realise bald was in style for 4-year-olds. FML
Today, my son told me he needed a haircut. I was thrilled that he actually requested it, since he normally throws a fit over getting them. He described the cut he wants. It's a mullet. FML
Today, I let my friend cut my hair and after a few minutes, she looked at what she had done and then she ran out of the room, laughing. FML
Today, I asked my dad to give me a haircut. After 20 minutes of "fuck"s and "shit"s, he gave up and just shaved my head bald. I pull off the look so badly that two people I don't even know have already told me I look like a psychopath. FML
Anger management
Today, we were running late because my hair got tangled in the curtains. My mother-in-law got so angry, she hacked at it, leaving me with a bald patch, then went and sat in the car as though we were still going anywhere with her. FML
Follicularly challenged
Today, I took my 5 year-old son to the barbershop. When the barber had finished with him, I told the barber, "While we're here, I might as well get a trim too." My son then exclaimed loudly inside a very full barbershop, "Dad! You don't need a haircut, you need hair!" FML
Today, my son gave me a bottle of shampoo for my birthday. I'm as bald as a coot. FML
Today, my 8 year old son cut his own hair. He did a better job than I ever did. I'm a hairdresser. FML

What kind of Bitch does that? That's when you wait for her to fall asleep and shave her head

Well, looks like you won't be needing the shampoo after all. Save it for later!

Yes, because the most logical solution to this dilemma would be to use physical violence.

A buzz cut with clippers "shaved" or a Gillette razor to your son's scalp and shaving cream "shaved?" Your poor son looks like Caillou now.

If you truly feel that your mother in law stole a "baby's first" moment from you, just take it back. Make it so that the first haircut YOU were actually there for is the one that counts, and just dismiss this incident as a crazy mother-in-law thing.

Think of it this way: Monster-in-law didn't cut the hair, she shaved it. The first, real haircut with sissors is still all yours. But keep MIL away from sharp objects for the next 15 years, or she might give him a second first shave ;)

I remember my daughter's first haircut. When she was born, she had barely any hair on top of her head and had more on the back and sides (looked like Dr Phil hairstyle, poor kid). So when it was growing out, the back was longer than the top and was forming a mullet. So I had to trim it to make it look "normal." She is 9 now and has long pretty hair. She is in my profile pic, the girl chowing down on the local cuisine when we were in Okinawa.

I'd be so pissed. I would definitely not leave her alone with my child until they were in their teens.

I do feel bad for OP, but mostly I just want to know what was going through the mother in law's head at the time.

I would have been livid and thrown her out of the house. What gives her the right?
