Today, I found out that my girlfriend is actually a man. Not a transgender person, I'm okay with that, but an actual gay man who gets a kick out of pranking other guys. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out the girl I've been trying to date for six months is gay. FML
Late bloomer
Today, I learned that the girl I love thinks I'm gay. To be honest, I'm having doubts too. FML
Today, my girlfriend, who I've loved and dated for over a year, confessed that she's actually straight as an arrow. All this time, she's basically been using me as an accessory to enhance her "social status" and make her guy friends horny. FML
Today, I found out the reason my crush has been talking so openly to me. Not because she likes me back, but because she thinks I'm gay. FML
Today, I found out that the very good-looking woman who sings for one of my favorite bands is actually a guy. FML
Today, I found out the girl I met online, who I spent hours talking to every day for the past 2 months, and who I fell in love with is actually my gay roomate. He says if I could fall in love with "her", I can fall in love with him. It doesn't work that way, dickhead. FML
Today, I introduced my girlfriend to my family for the first time. My mother's immediate reaction was, "We didn't know you were gay!" No mom, she really is a girl. FML
Today, I found out my fiancé is already married when his wife showed up at my door. That's about the same time she found her husband is gay, and that Ashley can be a man's name. FML
Today, my girlfriend told me that she's a lesbian. And that she could only stay with me because I had a "girly face and voice". She also admitted to having a crush on my sister. FML
Today, my girlfriend told me that she's totally convinced I'm gay. When I tried explaining that I can't be if I'm attracted to her, she took it as me thinking she's mannish. FML

You should never officially go into a relationship without meeting in person and getting to know them. You never really know a person this day and age.

if you've never met the person in actual reality, you are not in a relationship. People who are catfished deserve it honestly, how stupid and in denial can you be without getting what's coming to ya

I'm sure you're this stoic about it every time someone tricks or takes advantage of YOU, right?

reveal that you were a woman this whole time, that would show him!

I'm assuming there was no physical contact because that would have been your first clue. so when you say girlfriend I'm guessing in a rather superficial way. cause unless you're an idiot you should have been, able to tell.

There was a case where a girl tricked another into thinking she was a man, they had sex in the dark several times and had no idea that they were using a strap on the whole time. When the girlfriend realised she wasn't actually dating a man she went to the police because she wasn't consenting to sex with a woman. It went to court and I think the duper became a sex offender.

There was a person on Catfish who did the ***** in the dark thing...apparently successfully

Sounds like something that belongs on Jerry Springer.

If they were iffy about video chatting/pictures that is a big red flag. I'd also be wary of anyone that avoids talking on the phone as well. Both are big signs they are not who they say they are especially if they claim they are looking to date with hopes that it turns into a relationship.

Can we please stop calling everyone we ever texted or just talked to girlfriend or boyfriend? Am I too old-fashioned for thinking that you should ask someone if you want to be exclusive and if you want to be in a relationship (different things!) after several dates and sex stuff? Maybe this is also a language thing but I noticed that lots of people directly expect to be exclusive when they are going on dates with someone. How can you assume that?

Agreed it sounds like they've never met the person from the way it was worded. In that case, I agree with the person above who said in some aspect you deserve it for being catfished. How can you date someone you've never met, never mind video chatted with. I'm going to assume they haven't otherwise he would have known unless the guy looked super convincing on a skype video call.

Whenever someone talks to me and claims someone they recently started dating "cheated" on them, I ask when they asked that person to be exclusive. I've never had someone say that they asked that question when posed with this situation. I am 100% with you and think that adults approach relationships in steps. Personally, I don't go past a kiss with more than one person in any given time period. I also don't share so when I'm sure I want to be with someone or specific to them, I make that unquestionably clear.
