Today, one of my ears randomly went deaf. I went to the doctor, thinking I had an ear infection or something. Turns out that your ears can go deaf entirely without reason, and I now have medication to take to see if I can get any of my hearing back in that ear. I'm only 26. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Hello?
Today, I woke up completely deaf, for no reason. My doctor told me my hearing loss, "could possibly be permanent." I’m a composer. FML
Growing old sucks
Today, I went to have my ears cleaned out because I’ve been experiencing signs of deafness. Guess what? My ears were already clear. I need hearing aids. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve lost my hair, some of my sight, and some teeth, so yeah, why not my hearing at this point… FML
Ewwwwww
Today, my excruciating ear pain turned out to be a bastard maggot eating away at all the vital things behind my eardrum. The doctor pulled it out, but I’m now permanently deaf in that ear and can’t balance. I fall if I try to stand or walk further than 5 feet. FML
What?
Today, I went to a doctor's appointment to figure out why I've suddenly started going deaf. As it turns out, for some reason my ears now produce wax at an alarmingly fast rate. "Enough to make an entire candle before long if you save it up," the doctor said when she cleared them out. I guess this is my life now. FML
What?
Today, something blocked my ear. I couldn't get it out, so I went to Urgent Care so I didn't pop my eardrums. Turns out my allergies made my ears stop draining. After they rinsed my ears, I can now hear almost nothing. FML
Today, I was working at a daycare. There was a 6-year-old boy pretending to be my doctor, holding a little, plastic thermometer. He then, without warning, quickly shoved it deep into my ear. The last thing I heard was his giggle. I think I'm deaf. FML
Healthcare is a human right
Today, I was yelled at by my mom because I didn't hear her. I'm only 16, but I swear, to some extent, I'm losing my hearing, I don't even know what from. I've told her this, but she can't hear out of one ear, so of course it wouldn't feel real. I do feel bad about it, but I haven't heard her every time this has happened. FML
Today, my right ear drum ruptured. My family doesn't understand that I only lost hearing in one ear and continues to talk about me behind my back, thinking I can't hear them. FML
What?
Today, I found out that my hearing is average for a 60-year-old. I'm 30. FML
Don't go to Sunn O))) concerts, kids
Today, my doctor told me that the intense, non stop ringing in my ears, which started suddenly at the beginning of the year, has no cure, no treatment options, and I just need to learn to live with it. I have severe auditory sensory issues, and have barely been getting by. I don't know what to do. FML

Hey, there's a great Deaf community here. You're not alone, and you'll love it here. :)

When I was 24 I went completely deaf in 1 ear then almost deaf in my other ear. I saw my gp then a specialist. They couldn't figure it out. Nothing else was wrong. But they never checked my hormone levels. I think that's what it was. 3 weeks later I woke up and could suddenly hear again.

Since you were able to hear before, you may consider cochlear implants. They're not perfect, but are a damn sight better than deafness

That's kind of a drastic measure. Plus OP's hearing may come back on its own or they may not have the right type of hearing loss to qualify for Cochlears. There are also many other less drastic measures that any good doctor would take before cutting into someone's brain and implanting Cochlears.

I have significant hearing loss in my left ear. Went to the ear doctor when I noticed it, and he said it was permanent nerve damage. :( I try not to let it effect me too much. Hearing aid batteries get expensive after a while though.

I have arthritis and I'm only 25. Unfortunately, disease doesn't usually care about age, race, gender, sexuality, etc.

Your not alone OP! It happens to me all the time! Mine just usually comes back within 20 minutes. Hope you get better!

Do you wear earphones that go directly into the ear and play your music really loud? Maybe that's what caused it, although I'm not entirely sure why it affect one ear and not both.

My girlfriend has recently had some bad hip problems so we went to the hospital about it. Doctor says your hip can just give out for no reason sometimes. Life sucks when your own body is fighting you.
