Today, one of my ears randomly went deaf. I went to the doctor, thinking I had an ear infection or something. Turns out that your ears can go deaf entirely without reason, and I now have medication to take to see if I can get any of my hearing back in that ear. I'm only 26. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Hello?
Today, I woke up completely deaf, for no reason. My doctor told me my hearing loss, "could possibly be permanent." I’m a composer. FML
Growing old sucks
Today, I went to have my ears cleaned out because I’ve been experiencing signs of deafness. Guess what? My ears were already clear. I need hearing aids. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve lost my hair, some of my sight, and some teeth, so yeah, why not my hearing at this point… FML
Ewwwwww
Today, my excruciating ear pain turned out to be a bastard maggot eating away at all the vital things behind my eardrum. The doctor pulled it out, but I’m now permanently deaf in that ear and can’t balance. I fall if I try to stand or walk further than 5 feet. FML
What?
Today, I went to a doctor's appointment to figure out why I've suddenly started going deaf. As it turns out, for some reason my ears now produce wax at an alarmingly fast rate. "Enough to make an entire candle before long if you save it up," the doctor said when she cleared them out. I guess this is my life now. FML
What?
Today, something blocked my ear. I couldn't get it out, so I went to Urgent Care so I didn't pop my eardrums. Turns out my allergies made my ears stop draining. After they rinsed my ears, I can now hear almost nothing. FML
Today, I was working at a daycare. There was a 6-year-old boy pretending to be my doctor, holding a little, plastic thermometer. He then, without warning, quickly shoved it deep into my ear. The last thing I heard was his giggle. I think I'm deaf. FML
Healthcare is a human right
Today, I was yelled at by my mom because I didn't hear her. I'm only 16, but I swear, to some extent, I'm losing my hearing, I don't even know what from. I've told her this, but she can't hear out of one ear, so of course it wouldn't feel real. I do feel bad about it, but I haven't heard her every time this has happened. FML
Today, my right ear drum ruptured. My family doesn't understand that I only lost hearing in one ear and continues to talk about me behind my back, thinking I can't hear them. FML
What?
Today, I found out that my hearing is average for a 60-year-old. I'm 30. FML
Don't go to Sunn O))) concerts, kids
Today, my doctor told me that the intense, non stop ringing in my ears, which started suddenly at the beginning of the year, has no cure, no treatment options, and I just need to learn to live with it. I have severe auditory sensory issues, and have barely been getting by. I don't know what to do. FML

Hey, there's a great Deaf community here. You're not alone, and you'll love it here. :)

Maybe ask your doctor to look into family history and genetic conditions? I know with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome hearing and sight can change drastically in as little as an hour.

My mom became deaf in one ear after needing to have a tumor removed in her twenties. She doesn't let it slow her down and I doubt it'll slow you down either! ;)

"Turns out you can get sick without deserving it or doing anything to make it happen. I'm 26 and I didn't know this!"

I hope you don't mind me asking, but have you ever been checked for Menieres? I'm just asking because I have it and that happens to me all the time.

Hey, I've been deaf in one ear my entire life. Although I imagine it's worse for you, because you're used to stereo hearing

I would like to know the science behind that...can you follow up and tell us?

Get checked for Menieres Disease. It can cause sudden hearing loss for no apparent reason and usually is in one ear. The good news is it's usually temporary as Menieres causes your hearing to go up and down. You need to see an ENT doctor to get diagnosed. Message me on here if you have any questions as I am a Menieres suffer myself.

Did water somehow get into your ear? Dampening of the ear can cause this.
