Today, my son was playing The Sims, when I saw him remove the door to a room and set it on fire with a Sim trapped inside. I chuckled at first, until I saw that the Sim was me. Meanwhile, my wife's Sim was happily painting in the next room, not giving a crap. All too accurate, sadly. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Happy place
Today, my husband of ten years was playing the Sims. I asked him about the house he built. Apparently, it was his dream house, and he recreated himself as a Sim so he could live in it. Then I asked him where the wife was. There was no wife. It was his happy place. FML
Today, after learning that my wife has been cheating on me, I decided to distract myself by playing The Sims. Not long after I began, my Sim's wife basically started cheating on him. FML
Assumptions
Today, I left my husband in charge of the house for a day. When I returned, I saw him gaming through the window, so I stormed in and yelled at him. Then, my eyes adjusted, and I saw the neatly folded laundry, clean kitchen, vacuumed rugs, and my son, who was asleep until I woke him. Whoops. FML
Today, I found myself crying for an hour when my recreated crush on The Sims 3 game rejected my character and ran off with someone else. FML
Today, I found out that my husband made a replica of our family on The Sims 3. I also found out he killed me off a couple weeks ago and made a new wife, KiKi. FML
Today, I woke up to find The Sims 2 running on pause on my laptop. I unpaused to find my character and my boyfriend's were no longer together. Slightly confused, I went on to find the note my boyfriend left. It said, "I hope you can take a hint." I got dumped through a computer game. FML
Living in another world
Today, I played The Sims just so I'd know what it was like to live alone, own a home, and have a well-paying job that didn't slowly kill me from the inside out. It was the happiest I've been in months. FML
My electronic life
Today, I just realized that my Sims character has a far more stable lifestyle than what I can ever have. FML
Today, while playing The Sims 2, I realized I had a virtual person's whole life planned out, and have nothing planned out for myself. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me. He also decided the best way to end our relationship was to kill me and our virtual child on The Sims 3 by setting us on fire. FML

Keep one eye open when you sleep... in real life of course

Well if your first response was to laugh at something cruel like that, you know where the kid gets it from. YDI. ( and don't say it's just a game - try taking it away from the kid and see how much they care )

You may want to talk about this with your family if it's that accurate.

I'm no authority on psychology but I feel like if your kid is recreating his own family in a virtual world and interacting with it (and controlling it) he probably feels he can't communicate with his real family. I'm only reading into it because I've never known anyone who made their OWN family on the SIms. And the purpose of he game is to control the household... Maybe get him off the computer and go do something outside the house with him and have a chat.

And this is why I think it's creepy to base Sims off of real people. I love The Sims, but there are ways of taking it too far.

Holy god Jesus! People on here take The Sims way too seriously. "God, get him counselling! Immediately." Yeah, right...

I'm an avid Sims player, and even I don't know for sure what to make of this. It could be coincidence, or it could be something to be concerned about. Maybe your son was having a mood swing, or was mad about something, and instead of retaliating in real life, he took it out on his family in the game. I don't know, but personally I've only made myself in the game; every time I made my boyfriend in the game, something bad happened to us in real life, so I stopped doing that. I only made myself as a character and that's it. But anyway, yeah, maybe talk to your son and see if something is bothering him that makes him feel like he has to kill you in his virtual game. As for your wife problems, well, that's a whole other ball game. But usually Sims don't react to a fire unless they're in the same room, so that could be why your wife's character didn't react. ;)
