Living in another world
Today, I played The Sims just so I'd know what it was like to live alone, own a home, and have a well-paying job that didn't slowly kill me from the inside out. It was the happiest I've been in months. FML

Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I just realized that my Sims character has a far more stable lifestyle than what I can ever have. FML
Today, my husband of ten years was playing the Sims. I asked him about the house he built. Apparently, it was his dream house, and he recreated himself as a Sim so he could live in it. Then I asked him where the wife was. There was no wife. It was his happy place. FML
Today, I made a Sim of myself and had her work out until she was completely fit, then got her a job and a husband. Meanwhile, I sat at my desk, fat, single, and jobless. FML
Today, while playing The Sims 2, I realized I had a virtual person's whole life planned out, and have nothing planned out for myself. FML
Today, I spent a good hour playing a life simulation game so my character could go through the stages of pregnancy and labor, only to jealously cry for an hour because my character can successfully get pregnant and have a baby, and I can't. FML
Today, my son was playing The Sims, when I saw him remove the door to a room and set it on fire with a Sim trapped inside. I chuckled at first, until I saw that the Sim was me. Meanwhile, my wife's Sim was happily painting in the next room, not giving a crap. All too accurate, sadly. FML
Today, after learning that my wife has been cheating on me, I decided to distract myself by playing The Sims. Not long after I began, my Sim's wife basically started cheating on him. FML
Today, and for the last few days, I’ve been playing farming life simulator games. It dawned on me that my fictional farmers will probably be more successful and social and rich and energetic than I ever will be in my entire life. FML
Today, I put more effort into getting and keeping my Sims onto a good sleep schedule in order to properly take care of their needs than I did for myself. FML
Today, I found myself crying for an hour when my recreated crush on The Sims 3 game rejected my character and ran off with someone else. FML

It’s not the same. You’re playing a game. Your pleasure could be derived from the fact that you’re playing a game rather than living actual life. I say this because I did the same thing back around 2009-2010 (**** me I’m getting old). I spent hours each day playing the game and one day I realized I was doing the same thing as real life - I had a similar job, I was working on a book, things like that. But I wasn’t happy in real life, and I realized I was “working on the book” in the game more than in real life and I started feeling a little ridiculous lol. That was my experience, but it doesn’t mean you won’t be happy achieving those goals you laid out - they’re great goals! I think it should be inspiration to work toward getting the job you want, saving up for the home you want, etc. Work on that more than the time you spend playing Sims, and you will work your way toward the happiness you desire :)
