Today, my girlfriend of three years broke up with me, saying I don’t make her happy, I don’t make her laugh, that she feels she is settling for me, and that she's not being pleased sexually. Even though she has always said I did all of that, and that we could work through anything. I was going to propose. FML

I'm staying bc I want to raise my children with him. He's a great father, just a terrible husband. I have tried so many times to try to fix our relationship but nothing helps. I'm not willing to sacrifice my children's happiness for my own. They'll be 18 eventually..... only 10 years to go....

She worked through it and decided to leave! Joking aside, sorry its 3 years gone. We do only know one side, and maybe she is finally standing up for herself. The same could have happened to you. It takes a lot of courage to walk away from something that doesn't make you happy! Here's hoping you do find someone who will make you even happier. It's going to be hard, I'm sorry. Also, marriage shouldn't be one-sided knowledge. We're you both already on the same page? We're you both planning on getting married? The only surprise should be how you propose, not the proposal itself.

In my experience, you dodged a bullet. Anyone who thinks the other person in the relationship is responsible for their happiness is never going to be happy. It was really on her to make herself happy in how she spent her free time, it's on her to find humor someplace if you aren't funny enough for her, and it's on her to tell you what she needs sexually. Break-ups are hard, and it's not going to be easy. However, the reality is, she was as bad a girlfriend as you were a boyfriend. IMHO

Happened to me, too, after 4 years of being together. Happened right after thoroughly discussing marriage and making serious plans for the future. I bought the engagement ring, made plans with her to look for houses, which she happily agreed to do, and started looking at venues. Then one day, she became completely distant, pushed me away emotionally and physically, and a couple days later breaks up with me over text messages. All I can say is that it will get worse before it gets better, focus on your work and get a hobby.
