Today, after months of being pestered to do so, I finally read the first Harry Potter book. I hated it. Upon hearing this, my girlfriend posted the fact on Facebook, where I immediately received tons of abuse and eventual shunning by my friends, family, and coworkers. My girlfriend just laughed. FML

Wow that's awful. i can't believe all the YDI here. i've only seen the movies, never read the books. some ppl just don't care to read the books and ya just gotta accept it, it's no big deal. if someone broke up with me because i didn't read the books, screw them! she ain't worth it dude. find someone better.

I enjoy Harry Potter, can't stop reading them over and over! This has absolutely nothing to do with my relationship with my boyfriend. He has never picked up a Harry Potter book, and is in fact not much of a reader. WHO CARES. I love him for who he is, not what books he has read. It wouldn't make him any more lovable or a better person if he had read them. I think someone needs to get their priorities straight. :)

OP's ex girlfriend for one, dumping him for something as asinine as not reading a book series (and a shitty one at that), but all the people saying he actually deserves it, and then bringing out the Twilight card. FFS people, get over it. Harry Potter isn't appealing to everyone while Twilight is, and OP didn't deserve to get dumped for not reading a stupid book series. I don't care what the series was, that was immature and retarded of the girl. All you people saying OP deserves this just because it's Harry Potter need to STFU.
