Today, my girlfriend donated most of my book collection because she got me a Kindle for Christmas. Some were signed, including my Harry Potters. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years revealed he'd got me a complete collection of Charles Dickens' novels for £3 from a charity shop. He was particularly proud as he said it meant he could give me one for Christmas and my birthday each year, thus avoiding having to buy me presents for the next 15+ years. FML
Today, my girlfriend dumped me because I have never read any of the Harry Potter books. FML
Today, my girlfriend bought herself a brand new iPad and iPod Touch, and returned my aging iPod and Kindle, which she constantly steals for her own use. She considers it my Valentine's Day present. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I gave each other early Christmas gifts. I gave him a basketball signed by his favorite player, which took me forever to find. He got me diet pills. FML
Cozy
Today, my girlfriend thought that a few candles in our room would create a cozy and romantic atmosphere. Especially the one on the bookshelf. That candle damaged only one book - it was signed by my great professor, who's long gone. She doesn't understand why I can't just buy a new copy and deal with it. FML
Today, I got another email from Amazon asking me how I like my new Kindle. I don't have a Kindle. It's the one I bought my ex for Christmas, right before she left me while I was deployed overseas. FML
Today, after months of being pestered to do so, I finally read the first Harry Potter book. I hated it. Upon hearing this, my girlfriend posted the fact on Facebook, where I immediately received tons of abuse and eventual shunning by my friends, family, and coworkers. My girlfriend just laughed. FML
Antiques Roadshow
Today, my brother inherited a book from our grandmother that, in his ignorance, he donated to a charity shop because he’s “not a big reader”. I raced to buy it back, but someone had already bought it. The book in question: a mint condition, 1954 first edition Lord of the Rings, valued at £5000. FML
Today, I got a package in the mail from my girlfriend. I was really excited until I realized that it was just a box full things that I gave to her. FML
Today, at the office, everyone in my department swapped secret santa presents. I bought the guy whose name I picked a DVD box-set of his favorite TV series. One of my friends got a fancy make up kit. Another got a pack of posh notebooks. I got a toilet plunger. FML

WHY do people think it's okay to get rid of things that do not belong to them without the owner's consent?!

Oh, the advantages of having chosen a literate mating partner!

It still shows a complete disregard for boundaries. We're supposed to learn this lesson when we're three: don't touch what isn't yours without permission. It seems there are too many people who decide that what belongs to their partner automatically belongs to them, and if they deem it "childish," "impractical" or "space inefficient", they have the right to get rid of it immediately. It's marginally more understandable if the books were taking up a lot of space that was urgently needed, but you STILL discuss it beforehand - my books take up a lot of space, but anyone who got rid of them behind my back would probably not be in my life for long. Especially since it seemed that she was so cavalier about getting rid of the books that she didn't bother to check for anything "special" about them - even if the books weren't signed, they might have been written on by a friend of family member giving it as a present.

What the crap do people think they are doing when they give away other people's stuff? They are so rude. I feel your pain OP, I don't know what I would do if my HPs where donated, especially my signed books. It's not like you have an infinite punt of money to rebut book.

I would die then come back as a zombie and eat her. No one throws out Harry Potter. NO ONE.

There is just some shit you don't do. "I just got my boyfriend and e-book reader, now i can give away all of his books..." Books cost money and it makes sense to keep them instead of re-purchasing them for a kindle.

I have never been more personally hurt by a FML post. Don't people understand the love some people can have for books? "They're just paper put together, what's the big deal?" I always want to punch someone in the face when they say shit like that. :/

I've been married 18 yrs and would still never get rid of something of his without asking. When we do a major clean up around the house, we and the kids are asking each other 'is this yours and do you still want it?'. All about respect and communication.
