Today, my girlfriend donated most of my book collection because she got me a Kindle for Christmas. Some were signed, including my Harry Potters. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years revealed he'd got me a complete collection of Charles Dickens' novels for £3 from a charity shop. He was particularly proud as he said it meant he could give me one for Christmas and my birthday each year, thus avoiding having to buy me presents for the next 15+ years. FML
Today, my girlfriend dumped me because I have never read any of the Harry Potter books. FML
Today, my girlfriend bought herself a brand new iPad and iPod Touch, and returned my aging iPod and Kindle, which she constantly steals for her own use. She considers it my Valentine's Day present. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I gave each other early Christmas gifts. I gave him a basketball signed by his favorite player, which took me forever to find. He got me diet pills. FML
Cozy
Today, my girlfriend thought that a few candles in our room would create a cozy and romantic atmosphere. Especially the one on the bookshelf. That candle damaged only one book - it was signed by my great professor, who's long gone. She doesn't understand why I can't just buy a new copy and deal with it. FML
Today, I got another email from Amazon asking me how I like my new Kindle. I don't have a Kindle. It's the one I bought my ex for Christmas, right before she left me while I was deployed overseas. FML
Today, after months of being pestered to do so, I finally read the first Harry Potter book. I hated it. Upon hearing this, my girlfriend posted the fact on Facebook, where I immediately received tons of abuse and eventual shunning by my friends, family, and coworkers. My girlfriend just laughed. FML
Antiques Roadshow
Today, my brother inherited a book from our grandmother that, in his ignorance, he donated to a charity shop because he’s “not a big reader”. I raced to buy it back, but someone had already bought it. The book in question: a mint condition, 1954 first edition Lord of the Rings, valued at £5000. FML
Today, I got a package in the mail from my girlfriend. I was really excited until I realized that it was just a box full things that I gave to her. FML
Today, at the office, everyone in my department swapped secret santa presents. I bought the guy whose name I picked a DVD box-set of his favorite TV series. One of my friends got a fancy make up kit. Another got a pack of posh notebooks. I got a toilet plunger. FML

WHY do people think it's okay to get rid of things that do not belong to them without the owner's consent?!

I admire the fact that you still call her "my girlfriend" you love her a lot. Hopefully you can still get some back. Good luck.

I really feel for you OP and hope you can recover your books... Amongst my large book collection I've got wheel of time books signed by the late Robert Jordan and I know that if someone decided to throw out or sell these irreplaceable books, 'mad' would be the mildest way of putting how I'd feel.

This kind of shit is part of the reason I had to learn to make my own sandwiches.

I laughed so hard at this!!!!!!!! Maybe I should threaten my husbands books so he'll make his own sandwich! *no books were harmed in the making of this post*

that's pretty silly because if you want to read one of the books you already had you have to pay for it again on kindle. sometimes I still buy the physical book as well because it's cheaper than the kindle edition as well

How about having to purchase all the digital HP books again for the Kindle?

I'd break up with anyone that did anything to my Harry Potters, my dog ripped a page out of my chamber of secrets yesterday and I cried

If it's the same dog in your picture, I'd let it do anything to my Harry Potter books. Holy cute!
