Today, my boyfriend of 3 years told me he had a surprise for me at midnight. I stayed up all night, not hearing from him. Finally I get a notification. Apparently, my midnight surprise is that I'm single. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Post-it
Today, my boyfriend told me to stay home, because he wanted to come by to give me a birthday surprise. Later on, he came by, posted a note, rung the bell and left. The note was a break up note. FML
Today, I was dumped at the surprise party I threw for my boyfriend. FML
Today, my boyfriend came over to cheer me up after I'd had a sleepless night. He thought it would be a good time to propose. Unfortunately, it coincided with me yawning. FML
Today, I logged onto Facebook to find out that my boyfriend is now listed as single. News to me. FML
Deception
Today, I threw an elaborate surprise birthday party for my boyfriend of four years. He thought we were going to a quiet dinner but when we arrived, thirty of his friends jumped out and surprised him. Instead of kissing me to thank me, he broke up with me because of how easily I had lied to him. FML
Smooth Operator
Today, I was on a date with a guy I've been crushing on. In the middle of the dinner, he said he had to go get something from his car. When I asked what it was, he smiled and said it was a surprise. I waited for my surprise for half an hour. Then I decided to pay the bill and go home and cry. FML
Surprise!
Today, I'd been getting ready to hear my boyfriend's proposal, as his friends had told me he'd talked to them about planning it. He showed up at my house out of the blue… to tell me he's breaking up with me, only to find out he proposed to his ex hours later. FML
Today, my sister called me and asked if my boyfriend of 3 years had proposed to me yet. And now the surprise is ruined. FML
Awkward small talk
Today, I went to my boyfriend's house, intending to break up with him. Instead, I was greeted by his whole family throwing me a surprise party. I had to sit and listen to his whole family talk about what a great couple we are and how we're going to last forever. FML
Today, at exactly midnight, I get a text from my boyfriend saying we were done. I had just seen him 4 hours ago when we were out celebrating my birthday, and asked why he didnt just tell me then. He replies 'I couldn't break up with you on your birthday but i wanted it to be over ASAP' FML

You're better off without him if he's such a jerk. Cheer up, get a drink with your friends and have fun! You'll find your Mr. Right :).

Wow, what an asshole. Brush that off and move on; most guys would not do that to you.

Well he's an asshat, but he's not a liar.

You should just tell him your pregnant and that he's the father and your keeping the child. Then after a few month of him panicking tell him you lied or wait until you have a new BF

Points for creative effort, though

What a coward.

Good riddance. That was a horrible way to break up after three years. You'll find someone better, OP.

I'm sorry your ex is such a spineless jerk. Having said that though, it would have been awesome to text him back to tell him that HE has been single for 6 months now :) I'm sure you'll find someone worthy. Good luck!

Basically the promposal of breaking up. Sorry it was a negative grand gesture but clearly you can do better. Plenty of fish keep fishing.

It's quite worrying that this generation and the ones that follow are losing their ability to take responsibility, confront difficult choices and be comfortable with themselves alone. Electronics, modern communications and the Zucker-Jobs inventions are making it easy on people to become insensitive, abrasive, apathetic and bullying.

The world isn't really changing in this area, studies show it's actually getting better, but it's always been this way. For past generations it was letters and phone calls that were used to avoid confrontation, for this generation it's texting and social media. People have always been insensitive, abrasive, apathetic, bullies, the world hasn't changed, just the technologies.
