Today, my 15-year-old birth daughter asked if I've ever had sex. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that my daughter not only has a boyfriend, but that they're trying for a baby. She's barely 15. FML
Today, I walked in on my 15-year-old daughter stripping on Skype for strangers. FML
Today, I overheard my 11-year-old son giving my 8-year-old daughter the sex talk. FML
Today, I was a bit upset to learn that my 13 year-old daughter had a boyfriend. When she noticed, she assured me that I shouldn't worry, because "it's just for sex anyway". FML
Today, someone asked my wife if I was her father. FML
Today, my 12 year-old daughter asked me where her scrotum is. FML
Today, my daughter and her boyfriend excitedly told me that after months of trying they are finally pregnant and that I'm going to be a grandmother. This would be great news if they weren't 15. FML
Today, my 15-year-old son told me that he and his new girlfriend are deeply in love and are meant for each other. The "girlfriend" in question? My fiancé's 12-year old daughter. FML
Today, I went through my 15 year old daughter's internet history. On google she searched 'Excuses to get away from your dad' and 5 other variations of the same thing. We were supposed to be having a father daughter day tomorrow. FML
Today, while picking up my 14-year-old sister, a friend of hers asked if I was her mother. I'm only 17. FML

Time to have "the talk" with her I guess.

If you don't take time to explain it, they won't understand

maybe she wants to open up to you. you know. talk woman to woman and this was her ice breaker....not a very a good one but never the less still an opportunity to have a more personal and meaningful conversation with her....and if it wasnt then you figure out the Ice breaker cus she definitely needs THE TALK.

Tell her no...then see when she figures it out.

Are schools not teaching sex Ed anymore?
pinguino3669_fml 23
My school decided it was more important to talk about self-esteem

It shouldn't be the schools job to teach kids about sex, the parents should talk to their kids about it. And honestly schools aren't doing a good job teaching about sex anyway. Saying use protection is good advice, but that's not everything there is to know about sex. The parents don't need to go in full detail, but still the school system and the parents these days are failing at informing kids about it.

I agree but between both, a combined combo of talks and education.....that's usually enough for a young adult to know the basics

My school tells us it's our decision, but tells us about consequences and different protection we can use. (Including effectiveness, failure rate, and what it protects against)

The slide show during the STD lesson was more than enough information for me to wrap my little soldier.

My high school made us play a board game where you'd roll the dice move around the board and draw a card with some weird scenario about us sleeping with someone. At the end of the game whoever had the least STDs and kids won. Quality lesson right?

Welcome to my world, 85. Rather than rolling dice I'm filling out child support checks.. Haha.

When I was in high school we only looked at pics of STDs. That was considered our sex ed.

Maybe thats why teenage pregnancies have such a high rate of occurence now

Well. Schools stink at teaching sex ed because parents and politicians undermine the system because they don't want the "government" to teach their kids that stuff. If only the parents would take responsibility and teach their kids, but they don't.

Sex Ed at my school was pretty good. They even told us they expected us to have sex eventually and taught us about it all (STDs, protection.) They were even talked about homosexuality ect and gave us all the options

I'm from a small town, and my school had a surprisingly good sex ed program. They taught us about all kinds of birth control (diaphragm, female condom, IUD, ect.) as well as about STIs. Sad there are still schools that get away with teaching abstinence only education. If you're in a catholic school fine, but keep that out of the public schooling system.

That's odd, most teenagers have to take a Sex Ed course in highschool...I guess it's up to you to have the talk with her!

We had a were babies come from course in elementary school but not the full protection and failure rates and STDs until about 14 or 8th grade

She could have been a test-tube baby (ie, conceived via in vitro fertilization.) While you think she's an idiot, she is basically saying that you are unfuckable.
graceinsheepwear 34
wow, I wouldn't have thought you'd consider any woman to be unfuckable! Look who has standards now!

My new favorite word: unfuckable

i hope your daughter was kidding or, as 11 suggests, that was her awkward ice-breaker for a more personal conversation. if, at 15 years old, she truly doesn't understand where babies come, YDI for being long-overdue for The Talk.
Kitsi 14
That is sweet. I think that was her way of coming to you for that conversation. I hope you took the opportunity she gave you to teach and listen to her. Maybe she didn't know a less awkward way to start the dialogue. I know it seems like a stupid question, and the words were clumsy, but i think you should be proud and happy she trusts you enough to WANT to have that conversation.

Maybe health class wasn't enough for her
WildWonder808 14
lol well I think we all rather not think about our parents doing it!

That wasn't a question- that was a BURN!

No kidding, right? And everyone seems to think its sweet or a clumsy way of starting a sex conversation.... Come on, 15?? Most kids know the basics before 10. It was a Burn.
