Today, I went to a restaurant with my boyfriend. After dessert, he went to the bathroom so I quickly called the waiter over and paid the bill, thinking it was a nice gesture. When he returned, he broke up with me for "emasculating" him. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boyfriend took me out to a fancy dinner. Halfway through, he said he wanted to break up. I started crying, but the whole restaurant thought he'd proposed, and started clapping. FML
Today, my boyfriend asked me out to dinner, which we never do. While at the restaurant he gets down on his knees, looks me in the eyes, and pulls out a little box. He opens it and inside is a note that says 'We're Done.' He then leaves me at the restaurant with the bill and the $2.00 box. FML
Today, I went on a date with a guy who seemed to be quite the gentleman. I was proven wrong when he told me to "shut it" during dinner, stiffed me on the bill, and then left me at the restaurant so he could get his own taxi home. FML
Today, my boyfriend took me to dinner. As we waited for our food he took my hand and said, "I think we should break up." When I got outside, my tire was flat. FML
Today, I treated my boyfriend to an expensive dinner using the last of my paycheck. I had to excuse myself to the bathroom a few minutes in. I came back to find my plate empty. His excuse was, "I didn't want the food to get cold." FML
Today, after dating a guy for 2 months, things seemed to be going well. I offered to buy dinner and trusted he would keep in mind that I'm a college student on a budget. He picked the restaurant, ran up the bill over $100, made me pay, and dumped me right after. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I were out to dinner. She had to use the bathroom, so she went, but the food came while she was in there. She came out, yelling at me for ordering the food to come that exact time, then she broke up with me. FML
Today, my fiance's divorce was finalized and we went out to dinner to celebrate. I stepped away to use the bathroom, then came back to a note on the table saying, "I'm going to enjoy single life, thanks!" He left me with the bill. FML
Today, I went on a dinner date with the guy I like. He ate all his food then started eating off my plate, going on to eat over half of my food. When the bill came, he made me pay for it. FML
Today, I went on a date at a restaurant with a guy. When he promised I wouldn't have to pay the bill, I didn't think he meant we'd be dining and dashing. FML

45- What I would for a guy like that.... I adore a guy that will hold a door for a woman every time no matter what girl. I love a gentlemen and I appreciate it every time when someone does something as little as holding a door open for me :-)

- @126 My fiance is great like that too. He always opens my car door first or any door and allows me to go in before him. Unlike OP's ex though he doesn't feel "emasculated" because I pay a bill or two.

My girlfriend has done that to me. In this opportunities I use that extra money buying her something or going elsewhere :) that's what he sould have done

Cause she wanted to be nice? My man knows his place: by my side, not in front of me, not behind me, but by my side. He loves that I pay for things just as he does. Yes he pays for more ($39/hr vs my $8/hr) but he wants an equal not a doormat.

I am always the gentlemen when I take a girl out on a date and will always pay the bill when it comes. But I would have no problem whatsoever if she wanted to be nice and pay it herself. I think what you did was wonderful and it shows what a kind and unselfish person you really are. This is NOT the 1950's where the "man" was in charge and was supposed to pay all the bills himself and the "woman" knew her place as housekeeper and mother. A relationship is an equal partnership where both the man and woman contribute. These days you almost can't survive anymore unless both are working full time jobs. If that's how he feels then forget that cry baby and his ego. Find someone who will accept you for who you are.
