Today, my boyfriend took me to dinner. As we waited for our food he took my hand and said, "I think we should break up." When I got outside, my tire was flat. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend because he has anger issues. Tonight, my tires were slashed. FML
Today, my boyfriend thought it'd be a good idea to break up with me in his car. I had to walk home. FML
Mixed signals
Today, my boyfriend took me out to a fancy dinner. Halfway through, he said he wanted to break up. I started crying, but the whole restaurant thought he'd proposed, and started clapping. FML
Eternity
Today, I took my girlfriend to eat out at a restaurant. We chatted for an hour, and it all seemed to be going well, until she told me that she wanted to break up. Waiting for the bill and driving her home was the most painful time of my life. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he wants to break up. But not until after our anniversary tomorrow, because he's already gotten dinner reservations for us. FML
Today, I went to a restaurant with my boyfriend. After dessert, he went to the bathroom so I quickly called the waiter over and paid the bill, thinking it was a nice gesture. When he returned, he broke up with me for "emasculating" him. FML
Wrong place, wrong time
Today, I went to my boyfriend's house so that he could break up with me. I went out to my car to leave only to discover that all of the wheels had been stolen. Even the spare. I had to spend the rest of the day with my ex-boyfriend finding a way to get my car home. FML
Today, my boyfriend asked me to text him when I got home after driving 40 miles in bad weather from his house back to mine. When I did, he broke up with me. FML
For better, for worse
Today, my boyfriend and I went shopping for an engagement ring. We ended up breaking up in the process. FML
Today, my boyfriend asked me out to dinner, which we never do. While at the restaurant he gets down on his knees, looks me in the eyes, and pulls out a little box. He opens it and inside is a note that says 'We're Done.' He then leaves me at the restaurant with the bill and the $2.00 box. FML

Your boyfriend AND your tire broke up with you the same evening? Damn. That positively sucks OP, but, on the bright side, there's a great opportunity to call up a cute mechanic!

Well, I guess while he broke your heart, he broke your car as well. Sorry OP!

The great metaphor of life.

At least you got a nice dinner, and an ex who was respectful of you. I'm sure the tire is an unrelated coincidence.
fakedsincerity 32
it's pretty shitty to break up with someone in public.
Mathalamus 25
well, the end result is the same, then. unless he was loud about the whole thing, to humiliate her. it wasn't mentioned, so i assume it was a nice quiet affair.
fakedsincerity 32
no. dumping someone in public means they can't get too upset, it's basically trying to control their reaction and feelings. which is bullshit (unless they are violent or some other legit reason but generally it's a BS tactic).
Mathalamus 25
BS or not, it's still valid. I would expect the girlfriend to do the same thing.

It is. But our gender is really stupid (i apologise) but to us this makes sence. Eventhough I know this is a big no no and certainly would never do it, I dont understand why. I think it would be nice to bring her to the restaurant and afterwards talk to her in private in order to let the relationship end in a nice setting. But like I said: fear not we know this is a no go. We just dont get why... (Or at least I don't)

Who wants to be seen crying and/or breaking down in public? Whether he made a big scene or not, a lot of people can't stop themselves from crying during a breakup and that itself is very embarrassing.

actually he broke up with her while they were waiting for their food

Ok. If I can't break up with her in public because it is manipulative, can I propose in public? Or is that manipulative too? (Real qustion). Also, why would you 2ant me to dump you in your apt, somewhere you are home and supposed to feel safe?
Grimmerie 31
40 - proposing in public without first making sure your partner is ready to say yes is manipulative, yes. If they aren't ready they may feel pressured into saying yes, because turning down a public proposal would make them look like the villain.
fakedsincerity 32
I'm iffy about anyone proposing without talking about it first, tbh. It makes it very hard for the other person to say no without making the proposer feel like shit. But I don't think it's always manipulative to do, just maybe thoughtless, like they might be so in love they just want to share it with everyone. I don't know.

i'm pretty sure the tire was flat so OP would be stuck with the bill? no? thats what i assumed

I mean of all the ways to be broken up with I feel getting fed is a good way to go. Also as a side note perhaps he broke up with her in public in order to control her reaction because he didn't want her to talk him back in to a situation that he doesn't want to be in. a lot of private break ups result in the other party causing a scene, crying, yelling, and then begging to be taken back. some weaker willed or guilty feeling people accept and go back even though they don't want to. so breaking up in private sort of releases them from the angry side of a break up.

You're so unlucky girl

I will never understand why some people think it's a good idea to break up with someone in a public place... Hell, he didn't even let you have your meal. I think you may have dodged a bullet If he's that inconsiderate.

i agree

Lol, yep. Like the one to his truck!
darshini_ii 24
That was very inconsiderate of him. Though you should be happy he had the decency to do it to your face and not over text, also the flat tire could be a coincidence

It's obvious that you didn't lose anything worthy. Get out there and have a girls night out to cheer up and then move on. They're better guys than him.

This doesn't feel right. A third thing must go wrong. Watch out, OP.
