Today, I was taking an order for a patron at the casino. The policy is to "pay first." After explaining this to him, he still refused to pay. After years of being polite, I finally cracked and said, "You are making this really f-ing difficult". This particular patron was our CEO's son. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.

Today, I'm working in hospitality. I was serving a customer when another customer came up to cash in from the pokies. I told them I'd be there in a minute, and they said OK. By the time I got to them, they were complaining to my boss. Guess whose side was taken? FML
Today, a customer told me that there was no way he was paying for his shopping. He then walked off. As it turns out, the customer IS always right. FML
Today, a customer came into McDonalds and placed his order. He insisted on putting each coin on the counter rather than handing them straight to me, because he doesn't like touching "poor people". FML
Tipped off
Today, I was taking a table's order. After I finished, the guy told me, "Just FYI, I'm not a tipper." Trying to lighten up the situation, I replied, "It's amazing how many people forget I handle their food." He complained to the manager that I'd threatened him. FML
Tipping point
Today, I was taking out a customer's groceries when he offered me a $5 tip. I told him I couldn't accept, since it's against store policy, but thanked him anyway. He called me an asshole just as my boss was walking to his car, who then yelled at me for it. FML
Today, a customer was rude to me, and I was rude back. He then asked for my manager, and I told him I was the store manager. He then identified himself as the corporate owner. FML
Difficult
Today, as a restaurant manager, I had a large party of difficult guests. They sat in their private room they'd reserved for three-and-a-half hours, then caused a huge scene when it was time to pay. One guy even ran at me like he was going to hit me. FML
Date night
Today, I got into a heated argument at a restaurant with a guy I am seeing because he refused to let me pay for the bill and I thought it was sexist. When he finally agreed, I gave the waiter my card, only to have him return a minute later telling me it was declined. FML
Today, at the restaurant I work at, my own mom refused to give a tip and complained to my boss. FML
Today, I was doing takeout orders at the restaurant I work at. I spent a long while putting together this guy's $135.00 order. When he finally got there to pick it up, I told him to fill out the credit card slip. I looked at it after he left. He gave me a 40 cent tip. FML

Man that sucks. But the spoiled little **** had no reason to be rude. If he was the CEOs son he would've already known the policy. He was trying to get on your nerves for sure! Sorry OP. :(

I think "I can't serve you then" would have sufficed

The customer is always right...which means you were wrong. Curse all you want at home, but at work you gotta kill 'em with kindness. YDI.

Everyone in retail will snap eventually. People are rude little bastards, working in retail shouldn't mean you people treat you like crap.

I still don't agree with it. I'm a teacher, and sure I get frustrated, but I have to be very careful about not losing my cool. If I "break", it wouldn't matter if the kid was the principal's son or not - my job would still be in jeopardy and I would be in the wrong.

The customer is never right, just whiny ******* assholes. But worse, management never have any ******* balls to stand up for their employees when dealing with abusive customers, so employees continue to get shit on and customers continue to think they're entitled jackasses in businesses.

Worked in service for 8 years, worse stuff than that can happen...never should curse at a guest. Asking them to leave works and you'll even have your job at the end of the day.

Not everyone has the option to tell someone to leave or make a manager do it, that is against many places policies anymore.

No, 33, every business has the right to refuse anyone service. Especially someone who refuses to comply with the company's policies.

You are in customer service, you should never swear at a customer. I've been sworn at, yelled at and abused many times, but it is my job to keep my cool and fix the problem. Sometimes being super nice to a horrible customer is the best revenge of all, because then they feel bad! :-)

The CEO's son should have known better.

They say the customer is always right but honestly sometimes it just isn't true. Like on Not Always Right. Those are great examples. I would have done the same thing. I'm not patient.

The customer is always right is a horrible policy. It tells employees that they aren't important and let's asshole customers, probably like some you'd get at a casino, get more service than nice non-douche customers

The customer is always right; except when they're very, very wrong. Which is most of the time.
