Today, a customer told me that there was no way he was paying for his shopping. He then walked off. As it turns out, the customer IS always right. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Thank you, kind stranger
Today, I spent twenty minutes helping an elderly man figure out how to use the self-checkout. When we'd finished, he smiled, thanked me, then walked away… without paying for any of his groceries. The cashier assumed I was with him. FML
Asshat
Today, I got yelled at by a customer for saving them money. FML
Customers from Hell
Today, a customer got an additional discount, so his total came to $61. He said, "It says they're 3 for $66!” I tried to explain the discount, saying it’s cheaper, but he still insisted on paying $66. I couldn’t modify the price at my end. He left without buying anything. FML
Today, I told a customer that we don't do refunds. He responded by throwing his wallet at my face and accusing me of stealing it. FML
Today, I got yelled at by a customer for refusing to give a found credit card to a woman it didn't belong to. FML
Crisis
Today, I had a customer throw his purchase at me and demand a refund after I told him that, due to the national change shortage, I couldn't give him his 38 cents. FML
Customer service
Today, I had to serve an incredibly rude and irrationally angry customer, but I managed to keep my cool. When he finally went to leave with his purchase, I wished him a good day. He whirled around and yelled, "I'll have whatever the fuck kind of day I want, bitch!" FML
Haggling wars
Today, at the grocery store, the scanner at the register gave a higher price for a product than the price tag on the shelf. Apparently I was the one being unreasonable for insisting to pay the price advertised on the shelf, and not some secret price they never told me about. FML
Let's call the whole thing off
Today, I told a customer to “Enjoy your food” as I handed him his receipt instead of his meal. He replied, “You too.” We both froze in silence for a few seconds before he slowly took the bag and walked away in shame. FML
Cashback
Today, when I told a gentleman that, no, he couldn't have cash back on his return without a receipt, he started screaming at me that I was calling his mother a liar. He told me to lawyer up and yelled at me for smiling at him. He also screamed at me to go on a diet as he left the store. FML

I'd say call your manager or maybe cops, even though he's long gone

Sure the groceries might be free but the cost of going to court for petty theft isn't.

I'm sure they could look at security cameras. And if OP got his license plate number and description of his car, then the police could've tracked him down.

isn't that considered shoplifting tho?

Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
I believe that's called 'shopplacing.' Yes that's considered shoplifting/stealing.

okay. you don't have to be an ass about it... and honestly for all you know he could have been the owner of the store or something and the op just didn't know...

#40, 16 I think was just trying to tell a terrible joke. I don't see any reason that he is an ass here other than that terrible pun. Relax

I don't think that applies when they're breaking the law...

It's okay he can pay the police instead of you

Well, I hope his bad attitude and stupidity catch up with him when he gets charged for lifting,

I see two possibilities: 1) the customer walked off with groceries illegally. 2)walked off with groceries by managing to convince OP's manager or supervisor that he doesn't have to pay. Now the second is a possibility because OP emphasis the "IS", which made me believe that the customer got away without paying. no charges will be charged in order to retain "customer loyalty".

Customers pay though, this guy's a theif.

There's a third possibility though, the customer realised his groceries were too much and walked off without them.

customer loyalty? the only way a thief can be a customer is to stop stealing and buy their things. who wants a thief as a customer anyway, they don't buy anything?

There's also the possibility that they walked off without their shopping. Unlikely, but still possible.

thats a ridiculous level of democracy right there

He didn't pay which means technically he's not a customer yet.
