Today, I took my girlfriend of nearly 2 years out to dinner so I could propose. When the waiter brought the check, I caused a bit of a scene to get everyone's attention. When I got on my knee and proposed, she said no and asked if I could hurry up and pay, because she was embarrassed. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I gathered both mine and my girlfriend's families secretly to a restaurant. I paid the restaurant to play romantic music, and paid for the best table available. As soon as we finished our meal, our families gathered around and I proposed. She laughed and said no way. FML
Bad idea
Today, I took my girlfriend to a very nice restaurant. I thought it would be a good place to pop the question. I gave the ring to the waiter and asked him to put it on her dessert plate. When she saw it, she picked it up, put it down, and said "No". Then she started to eat her dessert. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in front of about 75 people in the fanciest restaurant in town. She told me she was already engaged, while holding up her right hand. FML
A night to remember
Today, I planned to propose to my girlfriend in front of her family at dinner. I had the ring ready and got down on one knee. She immediately burst into laughter and said, "Are you kidding?" The family stared in silence, and I quickly realised she was just teasing me... until I stood up and knocked over an entire table of drinks. FML
Jumping the gun
Today, my boyfriend took me on a surprise date to an expensive restaurant. After the meal, he got down on his knee and proposed. We've only been dating for two weeks, so I said no. He just silently kept staring me in the eyes, no matter what I said or did. I ended up having to walk home. FML
Today, at a restaurant, I happily watched as my boyfriend of three years got down on his knees and proposed to me. Before I could say yes and hug him, a girl flung herself at him, kissed him and shouted, "Yes!" With us still highly confused, she then ran away. FML
Please don't do this
Today, I took my girlfriend of five and a half years to family dinner at a restaurant. After we all had finished dessert, I got down on one knee, pulled out my great grandmother's ring and proposed. The entire restaurant was dead silent. She looked around and then slowly walked out. FML
Today, I was going to propose to my girlfriend of 3 years. I got reservations for a romantic dinner, and at the end, fireworks would spell out my proposal. The whole thing had taken weeks to plan out and had cost me a lot of money. She proposed to me at a subway station first. FML
The proposal
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend of two years after eating in a 5-star restaurant. She said that she wasn't ready, and that she would walk home by herself, which she did. A homeless gentleman walked up from behind me, patted me on the back, and said, "Bitches, man." I cried. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in public. She happily said yes, and the surrounding crowd cheered for us. About 10 minutes later, after the excitement died down, she leaned over and quietly said, "Actually, I don't want to marry you. I only said yes so I wouldn't disappoint the crowd." FML

Why make a scene? Were you assuming she would say yes just because everyone was looking at her? I'd be embarrassed too, because that's just asking for trouble in my opinion and if she says no(which she did) then people make her out to be cruel and heartless.

In my humble opinion, no proposal should ever be rejected because everyone who proposes should be DAMNED SURE the answer will be "yes". If you aren't absolutely positive, don't do it.

We can all tell you what you should've done. But hey relax buddy, you'll get it right next time. You just have to think twice before trying again.

Don't propose in front of ppl wtf.. That's just designed to put pressure on her and make her say yes

I think you should have discussed it first to make sure you both want the same thing.

A person can say they want marriage and kids, but when the times come, you will be shock how many changes their mind and says no. We do not know for sure until the honest question does come up and go from there. You now know she doesn't want too and it could be just not yet. You can either continue the relationship and try again later or break it off. Up to you ... I am not saying try again later like in a week, but like couple more months or a year. What is a proposal without being surprise? Isn't that the point of it? To catch someone off guard and make a special moment out of it? We can talk, talk, and talk all about what we want. Yet, like I said, we can change our minds quickly when it does happen. Better to find out now or waste time with someone who may never want to get married and start a family.

That sucks. I know someone this happened to before. she could have handled it better.

I believe it shouldn't matter where you propose..if she really wanted to marry you, no matter where you were, she would have said yes. However, causing a scene will definitely ruin any proposal. I'm sure you learned that today. You ended up embarrassing her to the point where even if she did want to marry you, you killed the mood completely. Better luck next time, it's rather unfortunate that she turned you down, but at least she didn't run away.

All these FMLs lately about failed proposals...and I'd love it if my man proposed.

You never do a public proposal you jackass. 1. Why would you run the risk of humiliating yourself? 2. Can you be more cliche? 3. Why do you need an audience?

That's tough to recover from and not to mention awkward. Hope everything works out for you.
