Today, I took my girlfriend of nearly 2 years out to dinner so I could propose. When the waiter brought the check, I caused a bit of a scene to get everyone's attention. When I got on my knee and proposed, she said no and asked if I could hurry up and pay, because she was embarrassed. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I gathered both mine and my girlfriend's families secretly to a restaurant. I paid the restaurant to play romantic music, and paid for the best table available. As soon as we finished our meal, our families gathered around and I proposed. She laughed and said no way. FML
Bad idea
Today, I took my girlfriend to a very nice restaurant. I thought it would be a good place to pop the question. I gave the ring to the waiter and asked him to put it on her dessert plate. When she saw it, she picked it up, put it down, and said "No". Then she started to eat her dessert. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in front of about 75 people in the fanciest restaurant in town. She told me she was already engaged, while holding up her right hand. FML
A night to remember
Today, I planned to propose to my girlfriend in front of her family at dinner. I had the ring ready and got down on one knee. She immediately burst into laughter and said, "Are you kidding?" The family stared in silence, and I quickly realised she was just teasing me... until I stood up and knocked over an entire table of drinks. FML
Jumping the gun
Today, my boyfriend took me on a surprise date to an expensive restaurant. After the meal, he got down on his knee and proposed. We've only been dating for two weeks, so I said no. He just silently kept staring me in the eyes, no matter what I said or did. I ended up having to walk home. FML
Today, at a restaurant, I happily watched as my boyfriend of three years got down on his knees and proposed to me. Before I could say yes and hug him, a girl flung herself at him, kissed him and shouted, "Yes!" With us still highly confused, she then ran away. FML
Please don't do this
Today, I took my girlfriend of five and a half years to family dinner at a restaurant. After we all had finished dessert, I got down on one knee, pulled out my great grandmother's ring and proposed. The entire restaurant was dead silent. She looked around and then slowly walked out. FML
Today, I was going to propose to my girlfriend of 3 years. I got reservations for a romantic dinner, and at the end, fireworks would spell out my proposal. The whole thing had taken weeks to plan out and had cost me a lot of money. She proposed to me at a subway station first. FML
The proposal
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend of two years after eating in a 5-star restaurant. She said that she wasn't ready, and that she would walk home by herself, which she did. A homeless gentleman walked up from behind me, patted me on the back, and said, "Bitches, man." I cried. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in public. She happily said yes, and the surrounding crowd cheered for us. About 10 minutes later, after the excitement died down, she leaned over and quietly said, "Actually, I don't want to marry you. I only said yes so I wouldn't disappoint the crowd." FML

Why make a scene? Were you assuming she would say yes just because everyone was looking at her? I'd be embarrassed too, because that's just asking for trouble in my opinion and if she says no(which she did) then people make her out to be cruel and heartless.

In my humble opinion, no proposal should ever be rejected because everyone who proposes should be DAMNED SURE the answer will be "yes". If you aren't absolutely positive, don't do it.

Well I assume that if you staged a scene, you were probably giving out to the waiter... How could you imagine that this would be the perfect scene for a proposal? Anyway, I don't understand the point of public proposals, why the need to include people you don't know

Dude, that was embarassing for both parties, plus what's the point of public mariage proposals??? Most of people who are watching really don't care, it's embarrasing for both of you two, plus, a unexpected rejection can happen making you look like a fool!

Contrary to what you see on movies, proposals don't have to be a public show

How would you feel if she made a scene in a restaurant? Embarrassed, right? Put yourself in her shoes before you do something like that.

FHerLife, personally even if i was ready for marriage i wouldn't want my partner to propose in front of anyone else, let alone a crowd of strangers. I would feel pressured and manipulated and the situation would be enough to put me in doubt as to the reasons for my answer; i don't always want to feel like i rushed my answer or said yes to appease some crowd. Even if you are with someone who likes the attention marriage should be at least discussed or touched on before hand.

Of course after saying no who wouldn't be embarrassed that's horrible. I guess it's best to find out sooner then later..

I get that you were trying to be romantic, but an engagement isn't something to just surprise someone with. You two should have talked before this to see where you saw your lives heading. If you two saw yourselves together for the rest of your lives, then yes, start planning that romantic gesture.
