Today, I told my daughter that she won't be going to her homecoming dance as punishment for her terrible grades. She's been crying and singing "If I Die Young" in her room for hours. At this point, I don't know if I need to call a therapist or a vocal coach. FML

Today, I told my mom that I want to try out for a singing competition on TV, so I might be able to kick off my musical career. She convinced me to sing a song for her, so I did. Mid-way through, she lost it, burst into laughter, and told me to stay in school. FML
Today, my daughter told me she would rather hang herself than hang out with me. All I did was remind her to go to bed at a reasonable time to get some sleep for an activity she likes doing. FML
Today, my neighbours' whiny emo of a daughter got dumped by her boyfriend. In her infinite wisdom, she's chosen to cope by playing on her recorder the worst rendition of "My Heart Will Go On" that I've ever heard. It's been going on all day. Now I know why he dumped this idiot. FML
Today, my teenage daughter came out into the living room and began belting out a song. When I cleared my throat, she screamed, turned beet red, and said, “I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE!” She’d been hiding all day, and to say I'm judging her would be an understatement. FML
Today, I was practicing for a choir concert that I have next week. My mom walked into my room and listened to me for a little while. After I finished the last song, she smiled, patted me on the head and said, "It's okay honey, I can't sing either." FML
Today, I came home and told my mom that I got the lead in the school musical, which I was very happy about. She pulled me into a hug then said, "But you know you can't really sing, right?" FML
Today, I was feeling depressed. I overheard my mom crying on the phone. She said, “If my daughter kills herself, who’s going to do the dishes?” FML
Today, my daughter turned Emo. FML
Today, my fiancée told me she was having a bad day while we were lying in bed. Just as she was about to fall asleep I thought it would be sweet if I sang her a song that her Mom sang to her when she was a child. Instead, I was told to shut the fuck up and that I sucked. FML
Today, I got a call from my daughter’s school. They found her on the roof, threatening to kill herself. I had to pretend to sound scared and sad over the phone, but in reality, the only emotion I could feel was extreme joy. FML

She may be giving you a hard time now, but I honestly believe that if you stick it out and teach her that her actions have consequences, she will appreciate it so much more when she is an adult and be better of for it.

People saying OP should just let her daughter go cause homecoming is SO ABSOLUTELY important clearly have no sense of priorities. Just think about it. High school homecoming happens four times. High school graduation only happens once.

Homecoming isn't necessary or anything. I never went to my homecoming dance, and I've never regretted it. Plus, there'll be other homecoming dances. Not like it's a one year thing...

Because of how this was phrased, was this a sudden punishment or was the threat of not going to the dance known in advance and she still didn't care to do better? Have you made threats to her over her grades before? And wow, that sounds worse then what I mean. Still, it is a fair punishment. I remember I used to play and sing along to t.A.T.U's I need a friend, when I got in trouble and was not happy about it.

Actually, that is pretty harsh. My mom wot let me go to homecoming either, but not because of my grades, because she doesn't like my boyfriend. It only comes 4 times ever. Let her go.

She did it to herself. I'd cancel all social outings until her grades come up. Hire a tutor. I'd also tell her to keep it down or the sound equipment is gone as well.
