Today, I came home and told my mom that I got the lead in the school musical, which I was very happy about. She pulled me into a hug then said, "But you know you can't really sing, right?" FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Got talent?
Today, I told my mom that I want to try out for a singing competition on TV, so I might be able to kick off my musical career. She convinced me to sing a song for her, so I did. Mid-way through, she lost it, burst into laughter, and told me to stay in school. FML
The Voice
Today, I was practicing for a choir concert that I have next week. My mom walked into my room and listened to me for a little while. After I finished the last song, she smiled, patted me on the head and said, "It's okay honey, I can't sing either." FML
Your song
Today, I auditioned for the musical at my school. Before I sang my song, I gave my music to the director. She said "Oh, I love this song!". After I sang it, she told me, "It's okay, I still like the song." FML
Today, it was the début of the high school musical I was in. When two others and I sang the word "Hell", my mother yelled at us for using that language, while the musical was still going, and dragged me off stage. FML
Voice of an angel
Today, I was sitting at my computer, listening and singing along to some music. I started singing louder, thinking that I was pretty good. Just then, my mom comes barging through the door in a frenzy saying, "Are you all right? Are you hurt?" FML
Today, at a rehearsal, a friend poked me: "My mother is in the orchestra, guess who she is!" I jokingly answer: "Erm…The fat singer?". It was. FML
Today, I told my mom I want to try out for American Idol. She responded with, "You don't take disappointment well." FML
Pure entertainment
Today, I auditioned for a part in a play. I've been practicing for months, and was very excited. After I'd finished singing, the director whispered something to the other judges, and they all laughed. Hard. So much for the lead role. FML
Today, I was at work at a preschool. I was sitting outside with the kids and was getting bored so I started singing. One of the little girls runs up and puts her hand over my mouth and tells me to stop. I'm in a select chorus at my highschool and plan to major in choral studies in college. FML
Today, I was at my class's band concert. Before the curtain was raised, I helped haul the piano to a different spot so a girl who would've had to stand behind it could be seen. I said, "There, now your mom can see you play!" She responded with, "My mom's blind." FML

She's just being a bitch. I used to do plays and musicals in high school, and trust me they wouldn't have picked you for the lead if you were terrible.

Just wait till everyone in the crowd is crying because you were such an amazing singer. Then on stage look at your mom and give her the finger. >:)

#30- maybe it was an Alabama high school?

Lol xD but Op's from Connecticut.

#39 I fail to see the correlation between Alabama and not being able to sing. That isn't even a stereotype for Alabama 0.o

#60 I went to an Alabama high school, Hoover to be exact, I scored a 36 on my ACT, spent 6 years in the military running satellite communications, and am now at Auburn University with a 3.8 GPA in my next to last semester in wireless engineering, so are you trying to imply that high schools in Alabama are somehow more lacking than in your state? You shouldn't stereotype

You also named yourself Reaganomics.

Bad pun ^

23- pitchy describes someone who doesn't stay on pitch/ the correct note while singing. And pitchy rhymes with bitchy, which means that OP's mom is an asshole. I'm not saying mr.misfit's joke was funny... But I just felt like explaining its pointlessness
ColdplaySucks 18
Pitchy as in sound? No? Maybe I'm just trying too hard.

Prove her wrong

Sing anyway, OP! If it's what makes you happy, don't let her bitterness cramp your style.

The expression mother knows best isn't always right. So like they said prove her wrong!
graham11 14
If she's not going to be supportive of something you are passionate about, you should give her a hug and say, "you know..you're not a loving mother anyway."

Better to be hurt by the truth than protected by a lie...

I doubt the school's performing arts department cast the OP as the lead in their production as some elaborate ruse to lie to her about her talent.... Sorry ur moms a b

I thought parents were supposed to be supportive. I guess I should start treating my kids like shit too. Thanks for the lesson, FML!
