Today, I told my daughter that she won't be going to her homecoming dance as punishment for her terrible grades. She's been crying and singing "If I Die Young" in her room for hours. At this point, I don't know if I need to call a therapist or a vocal coach. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Got talent?
Today, I told my mom that I want to try out for a singing competition on TV, so I might be able to kick off my musical career. She convinced me to sing a song for her, so I did. Mid-way through, she lost it, burst into laughter, and told me to stay in school. FML
Teenagers, amirite?
Today, my daughter told me she would rather hang herself than hang out with me. All I did was remind her to go to bed at a reasonable time to get some sleep for an activity she likes doing. FML
Today, my neighbours' whiny emo of a daughter got dumped by her boyfriend. In her infinite wisdom, she's chosen to cope by playing on her recorder the worst rendition of "My Heart Will Go On" that I've ever heard. It's been going on all day. Now I know why he dumped this idiot. FML
Judge Judy
Today, my teenage daughter came out into the living room and began belting out a song. When I cleared my throat, she screamed, turned beet red, and said, “I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE!” She’d been hiding all day, and to say I'm judging her would be an understatement. FML
The Voice
Today, I was practicing for a choir concert that I have next week. My mom walked into my room and listened to me for a little while. After I finished the last song, she smiled, patted me on the head and said, "It's okay honey, I can't sing either." FML
Today, I came home and told my mom that I got the lead in the school musical, which I was very happy about. She pulled me into a hug then said, "But you know you can't really sing, right?" FML
Priorities
Today, I was feeling depressed. I overheard my mom crying on the phone. She said, “If my daughter kills herself, who’s going to do the dishes?” FML
Today, my daughter turned Emo. FML
Today, my fiancée told me she was having a bad day while we were lying in bed. Just as she was about to fall asleep I thought it would be sweet if I sang her a song that her Mom sang to her when she was a child. Instead, I was told to shut the fuck up and that I sucked. FML
Love and hate
Today, I got a call from my daughter’s school. They found her on the roof, threatening to kill herself. I had to pretend to sound scared and sad over the phone, but in reality, the only emotion I could feel was extreme joy. FML

What about a tutor instead of both?

She may be giving you a hard time now, but I honestly believe that if you stick it out and teach her that her actions have consequences, she will appreciate it so much more when she is an adult and be better of for it.

Let her go, but tell her shes grounded afterward and then pick her up from the dance. Those after parties are ridiculously full of adult behavior, so she doesnt need to attend one.

I think you should've just grounded her from any social interaction(parties, sleepovers, etc.)and get her a tutor. That way she would be punished and get to go to homecoming. I can understand what you were thinking, but that is a huge part of a teens life

I never saw the appeal of Homecoming.

Instead of punishing her, you should've helped her with subjects she is struggling with. I don't know the whole story, but if she puts an effort into her work, your punishment was unfair.

Homecoming happens within the first few months of school. If her grades are that bad already then you did right by grounding her from the dance. I only went to one school dance. I left early. Nothing like watching while half your classmates grind and feel each other up to horrible music in a darkened, hot, and humid room while the other half stuffs their face over by the chocolate fountain, and destroys the dresses they spent $100+ on. That and no one was ever like- 'that homecoming dance was so amazing last night!' Which is more important to the success of her future? Good grades that open doors to better colleges and better careers or going to a school dance that she will forget in two weeks?

If your kid has been crying for hours, that's probably not the correct consequences for their actions. You're supposed to make them realize what they did wrong, not cause hours of deep emotional pain.

how about take some parenting classes before your daughter disowns you the minute she turns 18.
