Today, I realized I've been confusing scenes from The Lord of the Rings with American history. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today my boyfriend and my best friend had a very lengthy, detailed conversation about Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, of which I know nothing about. Once they stopped, I looked at him and smiled, and he responded with, "Why can't you be more like her?" FML
Today, my wife confused terminology from my religion with stuff from Harry Potter. FML
My precious
Today, my friend and I took an online quiz to find out what character from Lord of the Rings we look like. She got Arwen. I got Gollum. FML
Stop right now!
Today, my dad watched his first Lord of the Rings marathon. Now he keeps spouting lines from the movies, and thought it'd be funny to hide in my closet, just to jump out at me screaming, "My precious!" FML
Today, I realized that what I thought for years was my country's National Anthem, is actually the theme song of a TV show. FML
Today, I understand the finer points of the government in Star Wars better than I understand the U.S. government. FML
Culture war bullshit
Today, I realised that American political BS is even in countries as far away as my own when I drove past a "Trump won" sign on my way home from work. FML
Today, I realised I know the map on World of Warcraft better than the map of my own country. FML
Oh, right
Today, I spent an entire conversation nodding and agreeing with someone, only to realize near the end that I'd misunderstood one key detail and was agreeing with the opposite of what they meant. I laughed awkwardly and said, “Oh, I thought you meant the other thing.” They said, “I know.” FML
Today, after finishing a two hour essay exam that will determine the future of my career, I realized I misread the question. FML

One does not simply confuse real life with Lord of the Rings.

If only our history was as cool as LOTR's...

We're only ranked 16th in the world. Down from number one but not rock bottom. Yet

Just the fact that you said "smartness" makes you sound stupid.

Sounds a lot more fun than regular American history, that's for sure.

So when did George Washington and his troops storm the gates of Mordor?

How could you possibly mix up something so important to an American citizen, such vital information that everyone should know and be proud of a resident of the United States , with American history?
kotah2013 2
