Today, I'm beginning to regret explaining death to my 3-year-old son. We were at the supermarket when he looked at an elderly woman and loudly told her "You're gonna die soon!" FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I took my 6-year-old son to visit his grandmother, as the doctors say she only has days left to live. Minutes after we arrived, he leaned in close and told her that she's going to hell. FML
Today, I was talking to my only grandson about how I was going to the dentist to get my teeth fixed and how it was going to cost a lot of money, he replied saying "Who cares, you're going to die soon anyways". FML
Today, my four-year-old asked me when I was going to die. I replied "Not for a long time, why?" He looked at me and stated "Because I only want to live with Daddy." FML
Little shit
Today, I went to the graveyard with my little brother to visit my grandfather's grave. While we were there, my brother suddenly asked me, "Can you die now? I hate you." He's 7 years-old. FML
Today, after my 5-year-old finally got over his grandmother's death, we went to a store and saw a lady that looked exactly like her. She came up to us asking if we saw her grandson; I can't get my son to stop freaking out. FML
Today, I woke up to my 5-year-old son covering my nose and mouth with his hand and complaining, "Noooo, you need to die now." FML
Today, during my uncle's funeral, my four year old loudly asked, "Where's all the dead people?" FML
Little shit
Today, while at a family reunion, I jokingly asked my 18-year-old son, "When are you and your girlfriend going to give me a grandson?" He then retorted, "When are you going to die?" I was unable to answer at all. FML
Jinxed
Today, my phone made a random noise. I jokingly said, "Wow, I wonder who died now?" Turns out it was my son's grandmother. I had to explain it because I screamed. I also got to tell his dad that his mom just died. FML
Classic toddler moment
Today, I took my very talkative toddler to a grocery store. As we passed a woman in an aisle, my kid pointed and said loudly, "Mummy, why does that lady have such a funny face?" I had to awkwardly apologize while my face went beet red. FML

*OP glares at the child* "So are you."

Explain to her that that was not appropriate.

From the mouths of babes, it's pure innocence that is a rare thing in this world your daughter was right the old women is closer to death I think it's good for people to be reminded of their immortality.. It forces us think and feel on a deeper level. It's only egos that are hurt from the truth.

He's 3, wtf did you expect?

I'm surprised more people aren't saying this. Three is too young.

Too young to learn about death? Can you halt everything from dying until he's older? Not everyone is comfortable with making up a lie for their child. If you prefer sugar coating it or lying(it sounds negative but i don't know how else to word it), then go ahead, but it's op's child.

At age 3, children cannot understand the concept of death. Their brains literally aren't developed enough to fully grasp what it really means to die. At age 3, their minds still process things as magic and do not have concrete concepts of ideas. You really should study child development before you attempt to "teach" other people #38. And yes...I know what I'm talking about. I'm a pediatric registered nurse with a bachelor's degree in child development.

The daughter is 3 did you read the post. You illiterate piece of crap

There's a bit of irony in your statement #47 in that the OP clearly refers to her son, not daughter. So who didn't read the FML?

This made me think of Sarah Silverman.

Did you also tell him people of all ages die? Or only old people? If hes old enough to talk about death, you also need to tell him whats inappropriate.

In the kid's defense... they do say really weird things. My nephew asked my mom why she wasn't running while she was pulling the wagon. She responded that she was getting old and without missing a beat this little 4 year old says "and ready to die".

Technically...even though you explained death to your son...children really can't comprehend death until the age of 9. Their brains at age 3 still view things as magical and even if you explain it, they aren't able to grasp the concept. With children that young, you have to explain death in terms they can understand without getting too in depth.

Yikes. I mean, the lady probably had no issue with that kind of comment as it came from a toddler but just make sure your little bundle of joy doesn't keep also being a reaper of despair.

Three year olds have no tact/filter. Which is a blessing and a horrible, horrible curse. Re-explain, adding: sometimes elderly can live well over 100, but it's not nice to mention age or death in conversation. You'll definitely get the 'why?', but hopefully kiddo won't do it again. Good luck OP!

Maybe he is just psychic.

You probably didn't explain death properly to him. Old age isn't the only cause of death.
