Today, I let my new cat sleep in bed with me. It was cute until she wiped a tapeworm onto my arm. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, my new anti-social cat started rubbing on my leg. I thought she must be warming up to me. Then, I looked at my leg and saw she smeared poo all over my work pants. FML
Today, I finally got myself settled into bed around 2 in the morning after a very long day. My cat started to snuggle with me when I smelled something disgusting. Turns out my cat sharted in my bed. FML
Today, our new cat, which my mum was hesitant about letting us keep because she believes they're diseased, gave us all ringworm. FML
The Lovecats
Today, my cat woke me up by vomiting a big, warm, stinky hairball on my neck and then left. I think she was smiling as she trotted away. FML
The gift
Today, I turned over in my sleep and fell out of bed, face-first into a puddle of cold cat vomit that my cat had left for me. FML
Wake up call
Today, as I was trying to fall asleep, I was jolted awake by my oldest cat who'd decided it would be perfect to power-puke all over my bed. FML
Precision strike
Today, I replaced my bedsheets with new, clean ones. I went to the bathroom to wash up, and when I came back, my cat had peed exactly where my head would be. FML
Today, my cat likes to share my pillow at night. I guess she was extra comfortable last night, because she didn't bother getting off it to hack up a hairball. I woke up because I rolled my face onto it. FML
Sobering
Today, I made my way to bed around 4am after spending all night hanging out with my family. When I got to my bed, I started to clear a spot to lay down. Almost immediately, my hand touched something furry and cold and, fearing the worst, I turned the light on. Turns out my cat left me a half eaten rodent. FML
Today, my cat was in the bathroom with me. I was getting undressed to get into the shower. My cat looked at me after I'd undressed and then threw up all over the rug. FML

TWO pets for the price of ONE?! Some people have all the luck!

I don't know what you're definition of a good time is, but I would find that rather romantic. Just you, your cat, and a tapeworm.

do not let your pet sleep too near unless he or she is in the clear (aka is parasite free. you never know with new pets. wait til after the first checkup before getting your snuggle on)

You deserve it for not taking care of your cat properly, OP... *shudders* That must've been disgusting.

I'm sure it goes without saying, but you may want to take your cat in to see the vet.

Check for fleas too, one usually means the other. Tapeworms come from ingesting fleas (one way anyway).

Seconding this, OP. And no worries, treating tapeworm is just a matter of a few pills. Soon you'll have a parasite-free kitty. :)

I'm not sure where you got her, but if you adopted she should've been dewormed. Also, if she's an indoor/outdoor cat you should get her dewormed every 3-4 months (every 6 if she's strictly indoor, and I know she's new so you just got her). As many of the other commenters pointed out, you should also get her some flea guard/ treatment. Well, the silver lining in all this is that you KNOW she has worms (no fecal needed) and you can't get them from her unless you eat her poop!

Actually, an intestinal parasite screening would still be recommended, as there are other types of worms which are not visible in the stool except in extreme circumstances, and the medication for tapeworm deworming will not kill those parasites. The cat could have roundworms, hookworms, or shipworms and you'd never know without a fecal float.

Whipworms, not shipworms. Wtf autocorrect. Additionally, the tapeworms that cats and dogs typically get require development in the body of a flea before they become infectious, so you can generally eat tapeworm segments and be okay. It's the other intestinal parasite species you have to worry about with the direct fecal-oral route (or even just getting them on your skin - cutaneous larval migrans). Gross, but true.
