Today, I learned from my daughter's teacher that she has been wearing the same shirt for the past few weeks, ever since we had a fight about how I don't pay attention to her. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Rip off
Today, I learned that my daughter pocketed the money I'd paid so she could go to college. FML
How not to raise 'em right
Today, I learned that my 13 year-old daughter has been wearing the same pad for a week “because there’s no blood on it.” When I told her that it's still disgusting, she tried to defend herself be saying that, "no one ever told her how long she could wear it." FML
Fashionista
Today, my mother had a full-on hissy fit because of the clothes I was wearing. Not because she thought they were inappropriate, but because I was "stealing her look." FML
Kids will be kids
Today, I learned my son has been picking on a girl he has a crush on. He apparently went too far, because she finally snapped and beat him up at recess. The teacher, who knew about this from the beginning and actively did nothing, is trying to throw me under the bus for being oblivious to my son's behavior. FML
Today, I returned a shirt for my mom. When the cashier asked why, I just said my mom didn't like the way it looked. After an awkward pause, I noticed the cashier was wearing the same shirt. She was not amused. FML
Today, after having bought my daughter a complete set of new school clothes, she threw a tantrum and refused to wear them. I told her she could either wear them, or go to school naked. She made if half-way down the street in the nude before I caught up and dragged her back inside. FML
Clashing
Today, my daughter came home in tears, completely distraught. It took half an hour to convince her to tell me what was wrong. What horrific thing happened to her? One of her friends wore the same outfit as her to the movies, and apparently that's a betrayal of their friendship. FML
Today, after a conference with my teacher who had previously accused me of not doing my homework, she finally discovered she'd been losing it all this time. I've been getting straight Fs for a month. FML
Modesty
Today, I found out that my 11 year-old daughter dresses skimpy when I drop her off on the weekends at my ex-husband’s house, courtesy of his girlfriend, who he cheated on me with. When I confronted her, she told me to “stop being such a prude” and with my attitude, “no wonder you get cheated on.” FML
Today, marks the fourth day in a row that I've worn the same outfit to prove to my parents that they pay me no attention. They still haven't noticed. FML

Fact: the person who feels you don't pay attention to them is the one who knows best. The fact that you fought with her about it shows that you're one of those parents who thinks you're always right, and you disregard your kid's feelings. Instead of fighting with your daughter, maybe you should have asked her why she felt that way... and then taken her seriously. Sometimes kids can teach us to be better parents.

Agreed. People who get too butthurt when someone point out they're not entirely right need to change before having kids. Kids are just as capable of being right, no need to ground them or get mad just because they have a better arguments than their parents

I am just copy and pasting something I already said here because it definitely needs to be said here. I just want to point out one small flaw in that statement (I know this clearly doesn't apply with the OP but..) , I have met some kid's who's parents spend every waking minute with them, playing with them, listening to them, all that crud, and as soon as mom or dad wants do something for themselves, start screaming about how mom and dad never pay attention to them. Sometimes it is just dramatics.

#99, When that's the case, why aren't the parents teaching the kids life skills and developing their independence and pride in self-reliance? Parenting quantity does not equal parenting quality.

You can have the skills to be self-reliant and still be spoilt. The children are not incapable of being left to their own devices, it's just that why should they be if they can get mom and dad to entertain them? Not knowing how to raise your children is different from bad parenting. They try, they just don't quite have it right yet. My point was simply that just because someone says "You never pay any attention to me" doesn't always mean that person is actually always being ignored. It sometimes just comes down to the child/person having decided that the parent/person is supposed to be a trained monkey there to entertain them at all times. Guilt is, as we all know, a great motivator for many people.

Well she certainly proved her point then, didn't she? Perhaps try actually paying attention to your child from now on.

YDI! Is it really that hard as a parent to take even 30 minutes to speak to your child a day. I take at least the time for a daily call to my stepdaughter every day. (Yes, even after she threatened me and my baby). Kids no matter what age need our attention, and it does show that you have an active interest in their lives.

Hopefully she had a stern talking to about that little threat.

On indeed. We are all (dad, mom, her, and myself) doing some therapy as a group to keep thing going in a positive direction.

YDI! How does one not notice that anyway?! I notice if my little brother wears the same shirt two days running and he's not even my ******* responsibility. How can you pay so little attention to your own child?!

Parenting.... You're doing it wrong. Kids are usually wishing parents would notice less and saying " leave me alone mind your own business!!" that's one way to be sure you're doing it right
