Today, I heard my boyfriend talking with my father in the backyard. I thought he was asking for my hand in marriage. He was actually telling him about his plans to break up with me. FML

Today, I overheard my boyfriend talking to his mom about me. It sounded like they were planning something for me, like a marriage. They were planning how to break up with me. FML
Today, I'd been getting ready to hear my boyfriend's proposal, as his friends had told me he'd talked to them about planning it. He showed up at my house out of the blue… to tell me he's breaking up with me, only to find out he proposed to his ex hours later. FML
Today, I told my boyfriend, "We need to talk." He said, "I know". So we met after school, and he said he was OK with me breaking up with him, that he wasn't that into me either. He said all that before I could tell him that my parents wanted to meet him. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years called my house even though I was with him at the time. He needed to talk to my mom. He asked her to break up with me for him. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed. I was about to call my parents and tell them we're getting married, but they called me first to announce they're getting a divorce. FML
Today, my dad had a chat with my fiancé, telling him he can do better than me, and to think carefully before going through with our wedding. FML
Today, my boyfriend's proposal speech somehow ended with him breaking up with me. FML
Today, my boyfriend went to ask my dad for my hand in marriage. All I could make out from the door was mumbling, until profanities started flying. My boyfriend shouted "well she's a SINGLE bitch now!" and stormed out of the house. My dad still refuses to tell me what happened in there. FML
Today, my boyfriend called and said he was stopping by to talk. I didn't understand why he would stop by, so I asked if he was going to break up with me, he said no. Half an hour later, he knocked on my door to break up with me. FML
Today, in the same sentence, my boyfriend told me that he wanted to "spend the rest of his life with me," and "I want to break up with you because I can't face your family." FML

I see all these comments about hoping that the bf had physical harm done to him and I can only think of how stupid they are. You don't know the whole story of why he did it. He could have had very good reasons for all we know. You people are very fast to pass harsh punishment onto people. Even if his reasons weren't the best, he most like doesn't deserve a punch in the face or other physical harm.

Even if a boyfriend/girlfriend had bad reasons, surely it's better for them to end it than stay as none of their reasons are "good enough"? I don't get why people are meant to bed a reason. Surely sometimes, that person just isn't the one.

So he's an asshole for breaking up with her? How do you know he isn't moving and knew he couldn't take her with him? How do you know he doesn't have cancer and didn't want her to be hurt if he died? There are so many things that you do not know about the actions he took and the reasons behind them yet you blindly call him. Ames and think poorly of him.

All these comments wishing physical harm on that guy just for wanting a break up are really bothering me. I don't understand why everybody is so quick to resort to violence for everything. It's like they think anytime a guy doesn't act as they want him to he deserves to be punched.

Hmmm, I start thinking the usual "he took it a step further to discuss it to OP's father so it doesn't come off as a shock to him" but then maybe and that's a big MAYBE it was just to make you think that (perhaps they knew OP was listening in) he was breaking up with you to surprise with a proposal? But it always depends on the situations and I don't know it so yeah.

Why would someone do that to propose? Even if they knew OP was listening. I wouldn't be too happy about it when being proposed to by the same man/woman who "broke up" with me. I'd be pissed.

My thought wasn't that he actually go through with the break up, he pretends that's his plan. So when him and OP "talk" it's actually a proposal. Never said he actually dumps her first.

has anyome thought that maybe the dad was telling the boy to break up with her and the best way to? happend to me before when my father didn't want me in a LD relationship and my partner was moving overseas.. or maybe the guy had a good and genuine reason. I'd prefer to be the first to know but things happen
