Today, I found out that you can ruin a $500 computer with a few stray drops of 100% acetone nail polish remover on the keyboard. FML

Wild Nights Out
Last call, bad decisions and 3 a.m. texts you'll regret until noon. Cheers.
Same thing different taste
Today, while I was trying to take off my eye make up, I accidentally used nail polish remover. FML
Today, I managed to accidentally drop an entire cake on my laptop's keyboard. There's so much frosting stuck under the keys, I have no idea how I'm going to clean it out. FML
Fireworks
Today, I learned that nail polish remover is, in fact, VERY flammable. And I learnt it the hard way. FML
Today, I spilled some milk on my laptop. I was pretty sure it would be fine as it was only a bit of milk. While cleaning the residue, I knocked a whole bucket of water into the insides of the laptop. RIP Macbook. FML
Expensive noodles, dude
Today, I ruined a $1,500 laptop with a 69¢ bowl of ramen noodles. FML
Today, I decided to be healthy and drink a tall glass of water whilst doing my assignment that is due in three days. I managed to spill the entire glass over my laptop. I flipped it over and used a hairdryer to dry it off. While doing that, I managed to melt my keyboard. FML
Today, I was putting red nail polish on my nails and put a newspaper on the table to make sure that it didn't spill. I later discovered the nail polish made the newspaper stick to the table. I scrubbed nail polish remover on it, thinking it would help but instead bleached the table. FML
Today, I got angry at my computer, and instead of bashing my keyboard with my fists, I bashed my face on the keyboard. It REALLY hurt. FML
Today, I saw a spot on my computer screen. I tried to use my finger to rub it off. Then, I tried using my nail. Then I tried to windex it off. I continued scratching at it with my nail. A half hour and one scratched screen later, I realized the spot was part of the webpage I was looking at. FML
Today, I ruined my computer screen trying to kill a fly. FML

It's probably a laptop.

Why would you do that near your computer anyways?

I knocked over an entire rum and coke and it pooled underneath my laptop once. it somehow has been continuing to operate without a hitch.

Most laptops have at least some sort of elevation for air circulation purposes. Also unless you spilled it directly on your laptop, which your wording makes it sound like you didn't, most of it is just going to go around it not inside it.

Give it a couple of days. It actually may dry off and function. Nail polish remover doesn't actually always damage systems.

Acetone evaporates at an instand so the keyboard should be solvent free within minutes or -if she spilled the whole bottle - one day

i can not fathom how this has done crippling irreplaceable damage, even to a laptop. it must be some poorly made 3rd party built laptop with direct exposure to the motherboard underneath the keyboard, and the acetone ate through a major piece of it, that's the only thing that comes to mind.

Acetone and plastic don't fit together. Like the HDD or the mainboard is deformed and kind of molten after getting in touch with organic solvents (at least with most of them). So even if acetone doesn't damage the circuits it surely damages the plastic parts.

Yeah but if the acetone went too deep it could have damaged internal components. 100% acetone is pretty strong stuff.

How would ruining the keyboard ruin the computer?
