Today, I finally found out that the tattoo on my lower back means "slut" in Chinese, instead of "good fortune" as I always thought it did. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that the phrase I got tattooed on my lower back is misspelled. FML
Today, I found out the tattoo symbolising my marriage turned out to be more permanent than the marriage itself. FML
Today, I finally got a tattoo of an alchemy symbol that I've wanted for years. I also found out later that symbol stands for urine. FML
Today, I found out that the loving nickname my Chinese mother has been calling me my entire life essentially translates to "little retard". FML
No ragrets
Today, I showed my new tattoo to my friends. It's supposed to be a deep, philosophical quote in Latin, symbolizing strength and resilience. My friend, who happens to be fluent in Latin, started laughing hysterically. Turns out, it actually says, "You are dumb." FML
Inked
Today, I got my first tattoo. It's a large broadsword which runs the length of my spine. I went home to show it off, only to learn that the hilt on my neck looks just like a penis when the rest of it is covered with my shirt. FML
Great idea
Today, I got piss drunk. Being a tattoo artist, I came to the intoxicated conclusion that I could save much more money doing my own tattoos on myself. I now have my ex-boyfriend's name permanently on my thigh. It's not even spelled right. FML
Today, I realized that the "holla" tattoo I stupidly got on my lower lip five years ago isn't fading as I expected it to, and will probably contribute to my unemployment for years to come. FML
Bad omen
Today, I was at a Chinese restaurant with my boyfriend and his family. After the meal, we all decided to open our fortune cookies and read them out loud. On mine, it said "You will change your mind many times before settling down." I didn't realize what it meant until after I'd read it to them. FML
Today, my boss asked me if I know anything about those tattoos that girl put on their lower backs. "You mean Tramp Stamps?" I responded. He looked at me with hatred in his eyes and said that his 18 year old daughter just got one. FML

Well you could make a good fortune being a ****! They don't call it a tramp stamp for no reason!

You should get "stupid" in Chinese above it. Then your life would be complete

At least it's truthful.

The funny thing is that even someone who can't read Chinese, understands what your tattoo says.

YDI :) btw i think your username goes very well with your tattoo. I'll assume you're a real live ****? You couldn't have made a better choice for yourself :) But shame on you for actually getting a tattoo you haven't a clue what it says lol. Cheers

I'm chinese and I can't for the life of me figure out how anyone could get both words mixed up. I can't think of any character that means "good fortune" that looks even similar to any chinese character meaning "****", unless I've missed out any possibilities.

Are you a ****? From my prior experiences conservative women don't get tramp stamps.

There are a lot of people out there with Chinese/Japanese/etc tattooed on them that either doesn't mean what they thought it did or it's just complete gibberish. The worst ones are the victims of the so-called "kanji font" that's been floating around the Internet & in subpar tattoo studios for years; you can't "spell" your name in kanji, it just doesn't work that way. Check out the Hanzi Smatter blog; they have TONS of hilariously bad Asian-language tattoos. If you absolutely MUST have a tattoo in a language you don't speak, shell out a few bucks and ask someone who does. Graduate students or junior professors will sometimes do this for extra dough. Four words: think before you ink.
