Today, I asked my girlfriend what she thought of us getting married some day. She said she wasn't sure about me yet and that we may want to go in different directions soon. We've been dating for three years and I had the ring in my pocket at the moment. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I asked my boyfriend of 3 years what he thought about marriage in the future. "Who knows? We might meet other people soon." FML
Today, my girlfriend of 3 years confessed that at first, she'd only dated me to get her friend jealous, and that even now, she "only kind of liked" me. I bought a ring only a few days ago, and was planning on proposing to her. FML
Today, after my girlfriend telling me for years that she would marry me in a heartbeat, I finally proposed. She said no. FML
Today, my girlfriend started to plan our wedding. We've been going out for 3 days. FML
Today, the girl I've been dating for two weeks brought up the topic of marriage, then started asking me when we're moving in together. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend of 5 years. She bitched me out for not getting the ring she had been "hinting" me to get, and angrily left. FML
Today, I asked my girlfriend to marry me. She said no because she doesn't want to be tied down for the rest of her life. We already have 3 children, a mortgage, and joint bank accounts. How much more tied down could we possibly get? FML
Romance is dead
Today, my boyfriend asked me to marry him by handing me a ring and telling me, "Okay we're engaged now." I should have seen it coming when we started dating, I went to his house one night and as I was leaving he said, "Okay you're my girlfriend now." FML
The Boxer
Today, I was going to propose to my girlfriend of 3 years. I checked the box with the ring to make sure it was still there, and saw a piece of paper in it. It said, "No." FML
That's nice
Today, I told my boyfriend of 3 years that I wanted to marry him someday. His response was, "Oh, OK, thanks." FML

In retrospect, perhaps you should've asked her that question a while back. At least BEFORE you bought the ring.

Well, no kidding. People can be really dumb--you should always talk to her about marriage before because you may think that your relationship is TOTALLY different than she thinks it is. Me? I was jokingly chatting with my boyfriend about marriage years before we did it, and I went to pick out my ring with him, so he knew I would say yes and I wouldn't have any second thoughts.

#43 You're ******* stupid. It's not sexism it's bad timing and a wrong assumption. I'll give you credit for being right about the discussion thing but if you legitimately think that your girlfriend is willing to marry you then most men would ask them. I don't know if you're gay or something and I don't care but if you're in a relationship where you communicate on a level where you mutually understand the other person's opinion than most people would assume the right time to pop the question.

At least she was honest.

Wow #47, adding some homophobia to that sexism. That's real classy. Also, it doesn't matter how good you think you are at interpreting you partner's gestures, just talking about it is a far better option that beating around the bush and expecting your partner to pick up on it, and it's a lot better than assuming your partner is beating around the bush and just going on ahead without any prior notice.

your an idiot for asking what she thought about it. your supposed to just pop the question. therefore YDI for being a dumbass.

Well sure, he probably should've asked beforehand but apparently he believed she was going to say yes. Hearing that the woman you want to spend your life with thinks about 'going different ways' sucks. Good luck to you man, and cheer up! You'll find another girl that'll be thrilled to marry you.

You hadn't asked her before planning this? Well, now you know. Save the effort of buying the ring or worse, being told no. You probably should have asked early. Good luck to you!

YDI for tipping your hand too soon. You should have just proposed to her right on the spot. But at least you found out the truth before it was too late.

YDI. You ask these things WAY before you get the ring.
