Today, after finally giving up on the search for my lost dog, I realized that my neighbors had found her and are convinced that she was a stray. They won't give her up and are now mad at me for trying to take my own dog back. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my dog ran away. Luckily my neighbors caught him before he got too far. Now they won't give him back because they think I did something to him to make him want to run away. FML
Today, my boyfriend finally let me take his dog on a walk, after two years of not trusting me to keep her safe. During the walk, a car drove by, causing her to run after it and pulling the leash out of my hand. Five hours later, and I still can't find her. FML
Today, I searched our neighborhood for our lost dog. After screaming at the top of our lungs, driving around in circles, and asking strangers, we realized we took him to the groomers this morning. FML
I bet you're wondering how I ended up here
Today, I got caught trying to steal my own cat back from my neighbor. FML
Sophie's choice
Today, I adopted a stray cat that kept showing up at my door. Turns out, it belongs to my neighbours. It wasn’t lost; it just doesn’t like living with them. Now, they want it back. FML
Bold move
Today, I got home from work and found my dog missing. When I asked my neighbor if she saw what happened, I saw my dog sleeping on her couch. She tried to say it was hers. FML
Today, I lost my dog and so I put up 'lost' signs. As I was coming back home I noticed one had been written on. It said: "Found your dog. Keeping it". FML
Today, I went to check if my neighbours were home to return their dog, having looked after her for a few days. I looked in the window and the place was empty. They'd moved house and stuck us with their dog. FML
Today, my neighbor's 4-year-old daughter came up to me and asked if she could have my dog. When I said no, she started crying so much that her mom came out 5 minutes later and demanded that I give her daughter the dog. FML
Today, I found the dog I lost while I was dog sitting. It was with its new adoptive family. FML

Ouch, that sucks I would definitely get others involved to get your dog back But how did your neighbors not even know that it was your dog?

That's why you have those chips implanted. To fight back against scumbags like these. What a pair of grade-A assholes.

You didn't put up fliers or something? You don't have photos to show them (or the police)? Who gives a flip about your neighbours and their feelings? You fight for that dog.

This actually happens often. Take them to court and bring proof (adoption papers from when you got him, pictures of you with him, pictures of him in your house, etc).

You should call the police, and present proof that the dog does belong to you. Vets papers, adoption papers, pictures, testimonies from friends and families, et cetera will all be very very helpful when dealing with the police and possibly a civil suit. Your neighbors are arses. Really I don't see how anybody could do that.

Yeah, you could always sue them. I remember reading a similar case like this and the original owner got to keep the pet.
