Today, my boyfriend compared me to an unattractive actress. When I said it was sort of messed up to say that to me since she's not pretty, he said, "She's not as bad as you." FML
Today, my boyfriend and I were at a restaurant with a few other couples, and my boyfriend started to rant on how "all the hot chicks are dumb." Apparently, I'm either ugly or stupid. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years left me because apparently I'm "too beautiful and he can no longer handle other guys always trying to flirt with me." FML
Today, I saw my long-distance boyfriend for the first time in 8 months. He dumped me on the spot because I was "uglier" than he remembered. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me over the phone. He said I look too ugly when I cry to do it seriously in person. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I were talking about our past relationships. He told me that he broke up with his last girlfriend because she was smart and he suited someone who was quite stupid. He then went on to say that I was perfect for him. FML
Today, I was talking to my boyfriend, feeling pretty low. I said something along the lines of, "You like me even when I look like shit." He replied, "Ah, that's just how you naturally look." FML
Today, I told my boyfriend that I didn't feel like he loved me. His response? "Why else would I be with you? Your looks?" He was serious. FML

Well no, I don't think looks are the contributing factor to a relationships - of course not - nor am I saying that OP has to be some smoking hot bit of stuff for it to work, but surely after 5 years he should think she's attractive anyway? Also, I don't know if the OP has said it or not, but if he has dumped her for not looking like the person he envisioned, that's even worse. No one likes being told they're unattractive, it doesn't matter whether you're shallow or not. It is simply not a nice thing to hear, least of all from your other half.

No matter whether he's with her for the right reasons, any half of a couple wants to appear physically attractive to the other half. This doesn't just apply to women. A guy would be bummed if he heard this, too. And he didn't just tell her that she was unattractive, he told her she wasn't the vision of beauty he envisioned spending the rest of his life with. You can't tell me that's not a crappy thing to say to someone you've been with for so long. If it were me, I'd wonder how long he could stay with me before that lack of physical attraction became a major issue. Obviously, he's thought about it.
