Today, I was hanging with my boyfriend. When his mom came to pick him up, he introduced me. She talked to me politely and I thought we hit it off very well. As I was walking away, I heard her say, "That's your new girlfriend? Honey, you could do so much better." FML

Today, I met my girlfriend's parents for the first time over dinner. In order to make a good impression, I was as polite as possible, and tried to be as engaging as I could. Near the end of dinner, my girlfriend's mom says, "I liked your old boyfriend better." FML
Today, I brought my boyfriend home to meet my family. The first thing my mom said to him was, “Oh, you can do so much better. Like a paint huffer or a crack whore.” She was serious, and my entire family nodded in agreement. FML
Today, I was at my boyfriend's grandmother's house meeting her for the first time. I excused myself to the restroom and as I walked out of the room I heard her say, "You could do a lot better. She's fat." Then I heard my boyfriend reply, "I know." FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. I thought everything went well, until I got a text from him later saying, "Come on mom, she isn't THAT bad." FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents. We've been dating for almost 5 months and are extremely in love. His mom basically said to me, "I want what’s best for my son and you aren’t it." FML
Today, I nervously introduced my mother to my new boyfriend. I had to sit and watch her flirt with him for an hour. When I took her in the other room and confronted her about it, she said, "Don't you dare ruin this for me!" FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents. Later on, his mom pulls me aside and tells me to back off, saying he will never marry someone like me and he should be with a nice girl like his ex. They broke up after he found her in his bed with his roomate. FML
Today, I introduced my boyfriend to my parents for the first time. My dad took one look at him, sighed and said, "You deserve someone better. Someone who is responsible, and has their priorities straight in life." Beyond upset, I told my dad that I love him. My dad disgruntledly responded, "I was talking to him." FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me. Everything was going perfectly, right up until he brought me back to his house to tell his family the good news. When I excused myself to the restroom, I overheard his mom say, "I thought you were going to break up with that stupid slut?" Welcome to the family. FML
Today, my mom decided to tell me about her new boyfriend. I know him. I've slept with him. FML

I don't know if you did anything "wrong". Maybe you came off as standoffish (which could be because you were nervous and didn't know her). Maybe she's just a bitch. I don't know. Let's just hope that either a) your boyfriend doesn't bow/bend to what mama thinks or b) you dump his ass (as in stop associating with him altogether) before he dumps you.

Oh, how the grammar soap opera has flourished since I left! I love it! #48: It's mainly a stylistic thing, and I don't know that there has been enough precendence for a solid rule, but the full stop was outside the quotations in my original post (#14) because it would otherwise appear that I was saying there should be a question mark after the full stop. It goes without say that that would be seriously wrong. So, I concede your point, but I don't think there's a right or wrong in this case. That's another fun thing about punctuation; sometimes it's open to interpretation! #77: Who's angry? I'm amused. #78: It's more like, "Today I realised just how low my generation has sunk in terms of literacy. FML."

#88 - I agree with what you said when it came to the comment that #78 posted. It made my day. I would also like to know who is getting angry here. I've been in the grammar debate since it started, and I haven't felt one bit of anger towards the others in said debate. Oh yeah, it's better to look like a pretentious tool than to look like you haven't passed grade school. Sorry that I like grammar.
