Today, I met my boyfriend's parents. We've been dating for almost 5 months and are extremely in love. His mom basically said to me, "I want what’s best for my son and you aren’t it." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents. Later on, his mom pulls me aside and tells me to back off, saying he will never marry someone like me and he should be with a nice girl like his ex. They broke up after he found her in his bed with his roomate. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. I thought everything went well, until I got a text from him later saying, "Come on mom, she isn't THAT bad." FML
Today, I was hanging with my boyfriend. When his mom came to pick him up, he introduced me. She talked to me politely and I thought we hit it off very well. As I was walking away, I heard her say, "That's your new girlfriend? Honey, you could do so much better." FML
Today, I introduced my boyfriend to my parents for the first time. My dad took one look at him, sighed and said, "You deserve someone better. Someone who is responsible, and has their priorities straight in life." Beyond upset, I told my dad that I love him. My dad disgruntledly responded, "I was talking to him." FML
Today, I met my new boyfriend’s parents, hoping that they would like me. They made subtle, mean comments during dinner and made me feel like total crap, all because my boyfriend left his ex-wife for me. They don’t get that we’re both good and compatible for each other, and that’s what matters. FML
Today, I met my boyfriend’s 6 year-old son. The first thing he said to me was, "You’re not going to leave us for another man like mommy did, right?" FML
Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. His mom stared at me throughout dinner before finally blurting out, "I'm sorry, I can't get past the fact that you look just like his ex!" It turns out I do. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me because he wasn't feeling our two-month relationship was up to par with his parents' 30-year marriage, and, furthermore, I wasn't similar enough to his mother. FML
Today, I brought my boyfriend home to meet my family. The first thing my mom said to him was, “Oh, you can do so much better. Like a paint huffer or a crack whore.” She was serious, and my entire family nodded in agreement. FML
Today, my parents met my boyfriend, and to say it went badly is an understatement. My mom went outside to relax by chain smoking and the shouting, and the screaming only ended when my dad took my boyfriend by the scruff of the neck and threw him out the front door into the street. FML

Don't worry about her -- she's just saying that you are not her. Sometimes the Oedipus Complex runs the other way.

Sounds like he’s going to have to make a serious decision ahead. Be prepared, and I hope he isn’t a major mama’s boy.

Well, that's called a Jocasta complex.

The choice to continue the relationship is between you and your BF, not her. So the question related to her is if she truly wants her son to be happy. If so, then her role in relation to her adult (?) is to support her. it is not in her best interest to undermine your relationship as it can drive the two of you away from her and could prevent future family from meeting her. I have seen this in my own family with my own mother. Either she supports her sons happiness or is left out. It sounds harsh, but she should not be the reason for a future divorce.

If you see a pattern of him siding with her over you regarding anything and everything, dump him immediately. That would never change. You should be his top priority.

She may ne right. Or she may be overprotective. When I met my husband's mother for thr first time (when we were dating), she said, "I like you. You're good for him. You'll be married sooner rather than later. I didn't like his last girlfriend. She wasn't right for him and I told him that." Sometimes mothers just know.
