Today, I got the last clean bowl out of the cupboard for a bowl of cereal. After I had finished, my family asked me if I had cleaned it first. It turns out that that specific bowl is apparently the dog's, and everyone just puts it back after feeding him. FML

Today, I made myself a snack. I took a seemingly clean plate from the sink which had been used earlier for scrambled eggs. Only after I'd made the snack did I remember I let my dog lick the plate clean. FML
Today, I was eating a bowl of cereal and noticed something float to the top. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a mouse turd. I had already eaten half the bowl. FML
Today, I'd finally got home from a 15-hour shift at work and wanted to lay down and eat. I poured myself a bowl of cereal, went to my room, and sat it on my bed. My dog then jumped right on my bed and yanked the sheets off, causing the cereal to fly everywhere. FML
Today, after a week of working 18-hour days, I finally sat down to eat more than a sandwich. Unfortunately my kitchen has become a mess and I bypassed the clean bowl I'd put on the counter and ate my ice cream out of the cat's dirty food bowl. FML
Today, I got out of my bed and immediately stepped into a half-eaten bowl of cereal. FML
Today, I spent ages cleaning my house, only for my toddler to spill a box of cereal right when I'd finished. As I cleaned up the mess, the dog dragged the cereal into almost every room. All the floors now have what I can only describe as "surprise crunch zones." FML
Today, I spilled the bowl of cat food I'd just filled. I picked it all up in front of my cat, but he refused to eat any of it. I had to put the food back into the packet and fill the bowl all over again. My cat is a prince. FML
Today, I was carrying a bowl of cereal to the couch when my cat ran between my feet. I somehow saved every drop of milk but launched the cereal across the room. My cat immediately ate the cereal off of the floor and then walked away looking like he had planned it. FML
Today, my dog discovered his new toilet by taking a dump on his own bowl. FML
Today, I decided to have cereal for breakfast. I poured the cereal in the bowl, added the milk and had a spoonful. Then I realized that my cereal was moving in the back of my mouth. FML

What's wrong with that? My dog eats out of the same bowl for about week before we put it in the dishwasher. Granted it is an actual dog bowl, not just a bowl we take out of the cupboard to feed him.

We have two dogs and they lick the bowls so clean they look just washed after they eat. Any filth is invisible, so this is completely plausible. (And yes, we wash the bowls daily.)

#44 - You don't have to clean them everyday but you definitely should clean them every so often. It's unhygenic for the dogs otherwise.

Animals lick themselves clean. I doubt a dirty bowl, one that the animal uses, would be cause for any concern.

It's possible that the OP has fed the dog but that the OP has just always grabbed whatever bowl was clean and not gone hunting for the very specific, but still a human dish located in the human dish cabinet, bowl that the family doesn't wash.
