Today, I was working as a nurse, and an elderly man had just passed away. As the patient's wife was leaving she said, "Thank you for taking such good care of my husband." Then I, intending to say "Sorry for your loss," said "Thank you for your loss." FML

It's even worse for me. I tried saying, while babysitting, "I'll also put your son to sleep" and was thinking to myself, "I'll do the dishes as well" and ended up saying "I'll do your son to sleep"

I do this kind of thing all the time. People look at me weird but I'm use to it now.

I know I go around thanking people for their losses every day.

#14 she said this KIND of thing, not this exact thing... Still a weird comment, but oh well

Yeah. I didn't understand that at all when I commented. Thank the lord you clarified for me.

I'm honestly wondering now if you've beaten me at my own game. You can't be serious right? I was being extremely sarcastic.

33 - 28 was being sarcastic...

I know you were being sarcastic, which is why I replied with a sarcastic comment.

It's hard to tell some days. That's why I make mine as blatant as possible. The most confusing is when sarcasm is answered with sarcasm because my initial reaction is to assume the other person is an idiot. Well played though.

Don't worry 38, your initial thoughts are usually correct, evolution has prepared us for the idiots, they usually go unnoticed, kind of invisible to the normal eye, like the leaves in the wind...

This whole thread could have been avoided with the use of sarcasm punctuation. All hail the glorious tilde ~

@53, everyone always talks about wanting sarcasm fonts and symbols, but doesn't that detract from the effect of the sarcasm? It's like explaining why a joke is funny as you tell it. I can't be alone in thinking that, right?

56 - In oral conversation, sarcasm gets appropriate tone and body language, why not an equivalent in written communication?

To be fair to #2 though, I do this all the time as well, but I have my brain tumor that causes my oral awkwardness. For example, in this case, I would've heard "Thank you," processed what I heard, and then, because I'm thinking of their 'Thanks', I say it in my response! Catastrophes!!! I feel like a total boner every time.

#3, From reading this FML and this comment all I can think of is you telling a larger person that you had a "Brain Fat" when unable to give them advice for weight loss.

Damn. That must have been really awkward for you and a terrible "wtf?" moment for the wife.

Wow that's bad thing to say

It was an obvious slip. Why would she say that intentionally?

Honest mistake just the brain moving faster than the mouth

Don't you mean the mouth moving faster than the brain?

Either way, same results. Lets just call it a brain-mouth sync error.

It's alright sometimes grief sucks the right words out of you.

nurses deal with patients passing everyday, so I doubt that this one is any different

Yes, healthcare workers deal with grief every day but each patient is different and may affect you in different ways. Some deaths hit harder than others to me, depending on the circumstance. for example, if they spent a significant amount of time with this patient, more so than they would on average with other patients, they may have been more upset than usual.

Should've just explained what you meant otherwise you're probably gonna be nursing a broken nose and/or a stinging cheek.

I doubt she posted this FML mid-conversation, so I believe it is safe to assume she will not.
