Today, my friend and I wanted to get some alcohol (we're under 21). We went to a liquor store and asked a random guy to go in and buy us some vodka. After giving him $20, he said he had to go turn off his car, then he'd get us the drinks. He got in his car and drove off, with my $20. FML

as an addition to my comment (44)...I know people over the age of 21 still get into these situations, but at least they aren't doing something illegal and can take the proper legal steps to go after the person who wronged them. When you're underage and something like that happens, you might not be able to take all the proper legal measures, as you were doing something wrong in the first place.
I've done that so many times for so many different things and I'm not even legal age yet. People in my town assume I am for some reason, so I just take their money and leave. It's funny because they can't just go to the cops and say "I gave her $15 for smokes and she stole it!" because they'd get in trouble for trying to buy them in the first place.
In a few months I'll be of age, and even then I won't buy for someone that's underage. I really don't feel like getting caught and paying out my ass just to get some teeny-boppers a few coolers.

1) You do not ask random strangers to do that shit for you. There is a likely possibility, depending on the location of the store and its history with selling to minors (which you probably don't know), that it could be an undercover police officer standing out there.
2) You do not ask random strangers to do favors like that for you because you don't know them and CANNOT TRUST THEM. Also, common sense should tell you that MOST random strangers would have done what that guy did. Buying alcohol for minors can get people into a lot of trouble... he didn't know you so he sure as hell wasn't going to make that risk for you. But hey! $20! I'd have done the same damn thing.

A transaction was already made (you have to take a step towards committing the crime, ie: the money). Officers drink too, and I know we have a large department in my hometown... you always see them in public. I personally didn't drink until I was 21, simply because I figured it wasn't worth it. I had too many friends who got busted in HS/ college and now they are basically being blacklisted from different fields of work (such as Law Enforcement or Education). Not saying that everyone will get caught every time, but for me, it wasn't a risk I was willing to take. And I still have plenty of fun now when I go out with my friends, and we've been of age for a few years now. I don't regret it at all. But if that's a risk you're willing to take, I'm not gonna judge. But I'm also not going to feel bad if/ when you get screwed because of it.

over here in the Netherlands the legal drinking age is 16 , the legal age to smoke weed is 18 ..
but before you judge us consider that :
you are not allowed to drive a car until you are 18, a high powered motorcycle until the age of 21...
and it is very difficult and expensive to get a permit that lets you keep a gun in your house ...

I live in France and I bought liquors by myself since I'm 15, beer since 12 (the legal age is 18, but seriously, supermarkets don't check IDs as long as you don't look like a 10-year-old, and if it's the case just have an older friend).
However, I had a bad first experience (not too serious however) and now I drink quite reasonably. But if you two are too stupid even to *buy* alcohol, I just can't imagine what would happen if you drink it.
Though, it's a good thing to discover your own behaviors and limits with alcohol BEFORE driving.

To be completely honest, I'd do the same thing to a pair of dumb teenagers looking for someone to buy their booze for them. Why should I do something illegal for someone I don't even know?
