Today, while getting ready to welcome my first child into the world, my father in law decided to "help out" and threw out a bunch of papers I needed. Like my child's application for a health card, social insurance number, and my birth plan, as well as instructions from my doctor. FML

I'm not above digging through trash if necessary. Get them before they are gone forever.

Go to the hospital when your water breaks. Push, don't squeeze. Don't shake the baby.

When I had my son in Alberta I could print most of those applications online through the provincial and federal websites.

I always laugh when I hear a first-timer mention a "birth plan". Trust me, your birth will have nothing to do with your plan. Just roll with it and be flexible.

maybe the "birth plan" is because they expect a few complications. my only birth plan was to birth a baby but I know several people that had birth plans because they expected a lot more from the hospital and their doctors

They are just applications reprint them! :). I never had an application for a health card until after mine were born and the hospital have it to me. As well the social can't be filled out until after anyways. Everything will be fine :). Good luck with the new baby!

How come those papers weren't put away in a folder, where it's written "baby papers"? I mean how come you put them somewhere where they could mistaken for trash ? And why would your in law think he's helping out.. Was he in your house and saw papers in the table ? Oo

Canada? They give you'll the important papers in the hospital. It will all get done, no worry.

Your doc will give you more instructions, you should know your birth plan, and the rest can be filled out again, if not at the hospital. It's rude and stresful for him to do that, but dont sweat it.

If this was his way of getting out of baby-sitting, a simple "no" would have sufficed. Congratulations, and best of luck!

People need to stop touching things that aren't theirs.

I'm curious as to why he had access to your papers? Does no one keep their house locked?
