Today, I was told by co-workers with whom I have worked for 2 years that I tan too much and dye my hair black too often. I'm from the Middle East and have never tanned nor dyed my hair. My co-workers think I'm a wannabe. FML

North Carolina is not very culturally diverse I guess.

Take their jealousy as a compliment. Being tan and having vibrant black hair sounds like a beautiful trait. Be flattered -- they are the ones who think you have something they don't :)

I'm sorry your coworkers are that way. Unfortunately there's a lot of people like that.... Stay strong

BTW, why did you pick a random thread to go all grammar nazi?

Nevermind, this was meant for 28 but then I realized it was her own thread. Sorry

People ask me if i speak spanish or they flat out assume that I do. I also seem to get asked if my hair is "real" which I think is the dumbest/rudest question i get asked. I'm biracial (black, syrian, & white) and have long curly/kinky hair, when i straighten it or do anything different to it people seem to think its suddenly weave, nothing wrong with weave I just don't see why people feel the need to ask me about my hair or worse put their damn hands in it. People are fairly ignorant when it comes to race, ethnic skin color/hair, and other people's cultures. I just answer their questions and keep moving.

People always thought I was an American when I lived in the US. I guess because I am white and have blond hair and light colored eyes it was impossible for them to believe that I am, according to their labels, Latino or Hispanic. Even when I told them I was from South America and everything, they assumed I had to have some American or Canadian ancestor somewhere in me :/

my mother in law is similar in issues she is a fair skinned, beautiful black haired Portia Rican woman

At first read this as Middle Earth and thought OP had a lot worse problems than what her coworkers thought of her. Now I know I do.
