Today, I found out that if you accidentally step on your boss's dog's tail, yes, you can get fired. But not because you stepped on the dog's tail. You didn't say sorry. FML

You can look at it two ways: First, the dog is a living creature who just got hurt and thus could use some comfort. Accident or not, you caused the hurt, and it's up to you to provide the comfort. OR, you just damaged something that belongs to your boss. If you spilled his coffee, you'd apologize, clean it up, and replace it. So, you hurt his dog, you should take care of it. Your own feeling about dogs just doesn't come into play here.
