Maybe the flood happened after you were born and he had the year wrong? I know '96 was a heavy rain season for the US. We had some flooding here in the Northwest that year.

There was a really bad flood in 1995 in Missouri too - it just came later in the year than the flood of '93. Perhaps your dad just got the year wrong?
