The big scary apple

By NYCproblems - 24/06/2013 14:06 - United States - New York

Today, my ten-year-old brother came to visit me in NYC. Within ten minutes of walking on Times Square he had seen a prostitute and a partially-naked man. He now refuses to leave my apartment and screams when I try to drag him out. He's here for the next two weeks. FML

buy him the prostitute as a babysitter while you go out

well u half to love new york. he will probably get use to it sokner or later

Tell him that SWC_Penguin's 6 year old daughter loves walking around New York and that he should try being as brave as a little blonde girl who wears kitten t-shirts.

He seems really sheltered. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Too many kids lose their innocence too early. But honestly? My 10 year old nephew would have laughed about a nearly naked man outside and wouldn't have thought anything weird of someone dressed like a prostitute. He'd have been too busy looking at lights and nearly wandering into traffic

Yeah, everyone is calling the kid innocent, but don't you have to know exactly what a prostitute IS in order to be truly freaked out by her? I don't buy the arguments that this kid is totally innocent. Your story sounds like what an innocent kid would be like.

If you think any 10-year-old who hasn't seen a prostitute is sheltered, I can't imagine what your childhood was like.

Ah, thanks, OP, now Welcome to the Jungle is stuck in my head. Good Luck with all that!

I hate to question your story, but after living in New York for several years now, I have not seen a single prostitute in Times Square considering its against the law

Because everyone listens to the law.

Is Naked Cowboy still around? From my observation, most adult stuff goes way, way over kids' heads, unless you've raised them in a very non-traditional way. When I was ten, as far as I was concerned, prostitution was something that happened in Biblical times. I would never have known to identify one on the street.

Half-naked man in Times Square? Typical. If he was wearing a cowboy hat, we Americans call him the Naked Cowboy. If not, well that's still New York for you.
