Did they specifically say it was a date or was it more like "oh, sure i'd love to have coffee with you." kind of thing because they probably took it to mean coffee between friends and not a date...

I don't see how this is a FML. If he were attracted to you he would've said something to you about it already. After all, he's able to approach a stranger to ask her for her number
