Out of retirement

Today, within a year of inheriting the family business from me so I could retire, my daughter claimed she had found a way to increase profits that was "way too complicated" for me to understand. Well today, police showed up. Whatever her method was, apparently it counts as fraud. FML
I agree, your life sucks 1 215

It was your business originally and you just accepted the “way too complicated” line? I really hope you have a way to economically survive if Daughter’s fraud causes massive losses or closing of the business. If someone cannot explain something to me in a way I can understand, either they don’t understand it themselves or they are attempting to commit fraud. OP, I feel for the betrayal in this and for having an adult child who committed legal fraud. Be very careful not to throw good money after bad trying to defend your adult child. Unfortunately this is the worst case scenario in the transitioning of a family business to the next generation. Children do not automatically turn out to be good or honest business operators. Do you have a more competent and honest adult relative who could run the business if the business survives? By the way there may be more bad news to come - Daughter might have a drug or gambling problem that led her to a desperate need of money.

I guess she's not bribing them as much as you did.
