Late bloomers

Today, I emailed out class requirements for the upcoming school year. I had to include, "No toys, no bottles, no pacifiers, and children must be fully potty trained in order to attend." At least 3 parents complained. I teach second grade, and none of them is special needs. FML

Why did you have to mention potty training? In second grade, that shit sorts itself out automatically. A kid who craps or pees themselves at school becomes a laughingstock and their parents have to move them to a new school. You don't have to expend any effort to fix the... ... I have to say it... ... wait on it ... ... shitty situation.

That's a pretty solid list, so I'm gonna go ahead and steal it for the class I'll be teaching next fall. Granted, the "kids" will actually be grad students, but I feel like most of the items apply just fine.

You are amazing! We need more people like you. Teachers are a breed unto themselves. Often times the parents are worse behaved than their children!

my daughter was having the off accident at school up until grade 2, usually the schools I've had my kids at have just advised to send extra clothes to school just incase and teach them to clean themselves up and change their pants. if it's too messy tho the school would just call to have them picked up! my daughter does have a bit of a disability tho. I have another friend who suffered from a lot of uti issues and would have pee accidents at school even in grade 2, she's fine now tho, and so is my daughter! I've never seen a school saying "must be fully potty trained" so I don't know where this school is. I don't think I would ever send a complaint letter even if our school did say for kids to be fully potty trained!

So what if a kid needs a toy or pacifier to be attentive in class? Does it impede your teaching?
