Today, my boyfriend of 4 years proposed to me. I said yes and he gave me an engagement ring. He immediately went to call his mom to tell her the happy news. After the phone call, he asked if he could return the ring because his mom needed money. FML

Today, my boyfriend proposed with the perfect ring, restaurant, flowers, and champagne. He’s never been this well prepared for anything in his life, so he admitted that my mother planned the whole thing and forced him to propose, even though neither of us want to get married. She even bought the ring. FML

I believe that 38 was saying that his mom is overbearing. And I agree that if she is then the OP needs to get out. An overbearing mother tries to force her opinions on everything and in most times, like it did with me and my ex, destroy the relationship altogether. That said my interpretation of the FML is that the OP's fiancé is a moron.
